Tennis Set for Two Matches in Denton This Weekend

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's tennis returns to the road this weekend for a pair of matches in Denton, Texas, as the Bobcats continue their spring season against American Athletic Conference and Conference USA opponents.

Texas State will open the weekend Friday at 3 p.m. against North Texas at the Waranch Tennis Complex before facing FIU on Saturday at noon at the same venue.

The Bobcats enter the weekend 6-2 overall and riding a six-match winning streak. Texas State is 3-1 in true road matches this season and 0-1 at neutral sites.

North Texas comes into Friday's match with a 4-2 record and a three-match winning streak, posting recent wins over Weatherford College (4-0), UT Arlington (4-0) and Abilene Christian (6-1).

The Mean Green are led by juniors Lou Chalard and Carolina Laydner along with freshman Pia Petelinsek. Chalard owns a 5-1 singles record primarily on courts one and two, while Laydner is 5-2 in singles play on the top courts. Petelinsek has compiled a 5-2 singles record competing mostly on courts two through five.

North Texas leads the all-time series against Texas State 4-1, including a 3-0 record at home. The Mean Green won the most recent meeting in 2021 by a 5-2 score.

FIU enters the weekend 1-3 overall after consecutive losses to Miami (7-0), No. 25 UCF (4-1) and No. 34 Princeton (4-1). The Panthers' lone victory came in a 7-0 season-opening win over Syracuse.

The Panthers are currently 1-2 at home, and 0-1 when playing on the road. Saturday's contest will mark the first tennis meeting between Texas State and FIU in program history.
