NEW ORLEANS – After a dominant performance on the mound in Sunday's series clinching victory, Texas State's
Jesus Tovar was selected as the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Â
It is the second straight week a Bobcat has earned pitcher of the week honors after
Kyle Froehlich claimed it last week. It is the first time in program history that two TXST hurlers claimed the award in back-to-back weeks.
Â
Tovar threw eight shutout innings and struck out six in the 5-0 win over future Pac-12 Conference foe Gonzaga. He also allowed just three hits and one walk to pick up his second victory of the season.
Â
For the year, the El Paso native has thrown 13 innings without giving up a run. He has also recorded 12 strikeouts and is limiting hitters to a .146 average.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is an I-35 Showdown with UTSA at 6 p.m. from Bobcat Ballpark.
