Texas State Shot Put, Hurdles Groups Ranked Top Five in the Nation

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track & field placed two event groups among the nation's top five in the USTFCCCA Checkpoint Four #EventSquad rankings, highlighted by the women's shot put group ranking third nationally and the men's 60-meter hurdles squad ranking fifth.

Texas State's women's shot put group sits third in the national rankings with a collective average throw of 15.25 meters, trailing only Nebraska (18.05m avg) and Michigan (16.04m avg).

The Bobcat unit features Melanie Duron, Sophia Haberer, Hannah Kemele and Stephanie Williams. Duron, Haberer and Kemele currently hold the top three marks in the Sun Belt Conference, while Williams ranks seventh.

Duron earned Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week honors earlier this season after a 16.58m performance at the Ted Nelson Invitational. She most recently recorded a conference-leading 16.61m throw at the Jarvis Scott Invitational, which ranks fourth in program history. The three marks ahead of it were also set by Duron.

Texas State Women's Shot Put Top Marks

Texas State's men's 60-meter hurdles group ranks fifth nationally with a 7.88-second average, behind Arkansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Houston.

The group includes Ja'Shaun Lloyd, Joshua Taylor, Arveyon Davis and Tshephang Dankuru.

At the most recent meet, three Bobcats advanced to the 60m hurdles final and all recorded personal bests. Lloyd placed second in 7.71 seconds, moving him to fifth all-time in program history. Taylor finished fourth in 7.83 seconds, followed closely by Davis in fifth with a 7.92 mark.

Texas State closes the indoor regular season Feb. 23-24 at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
