Tennis Opens 2026 Spring Season with Doubleheader

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's tennis will open the 2026 spring season Saturday with a doubleheader in Norman, Oklahoma, at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Bobcats will begin the day against Wichita State at 10 a.m. before facing No. 6-ranked Oklahoma at 4:00 p.m.

Texas State is coming off a historic 2024–25 campaign, finishing 16-6 overall and 7-3 in Sun Belt Conference play to post the winningest season in program history.

The Bobcats return four players from last year's roster: Ireland Simme, Emily Niers, Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills. Texas State also welcomes six newcomers, including freshmen Olivia Collins, Stoney Cooks, Zoe Du Pasquier Jensen and Anastasia Radovanovic, along with transfers Julia Richardet and Charlotte Roesch.

Seniors Niers and Simme headline the roster after a strong 2024–25 season. Niers competed primarily on courts three through five and recorded a 12-3 record. Simme played on courts five and six and went a perfect 15-0, becoming the first player in program history to complete a season with 10+ wins and no losses.

Texas State will officially open the season against Wichita State at 10:00 a.m., and will mark the first tennis meeting between the two programs.

The Shockers are also opening their season Saturday after finishing 13-10 overall and 5-3 in American Conference play in 2024–25. Wichita State's season ended with a 4-3 loss to Tulsa in the quarterfinals of the American Women's Tennis Championship.

Wichita State returns nine players from last year's squad and is led by senior Theodora Chantava, who posted a 23-8 singles record last season while competing across courts two through five.

In the second match of the day, Texas State will take on No. 6-ranked Oklahoma, marking the first-ever meeting between the two programs in tennis.

The Sooners are coming off a 20-7 season in 2024–25, including an 11-4 mark in SEC play. Oklahoma's season ended with a 4-2 loss to Oklahoma State in the second round of the NCAA D1 Women's Tennis Championship. 

Oklahoma returns five players from last year's roster, including Julia Garcia Ruiz, who finished the season ranked No. 30 nationally. The Sooners also feature highly touted newcomers Evialina Laskevich, ranked No. 4 in the ITA newcomer rankings, and Edda Mamedova, ranked No. 11.

Both of the Bobcats' matchups on Saturday will be live-streamed and fans can also follow along via live stats.
