Baseball Adds Wallace and Stivors to Staff

SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Monday, Texas State head baseball coach Steven Trout announced a pair of staff additions. Joining the team will be Austin Wallace as the director of pitching development and analytics and Tristan Stivors as the assistant director of pitching development.

Prior to joining the Bobcats, Wallace was a player development associate with the Boston Red Sox. He operated all baseball technologies to help drive data driven player development. Wallace was a graduate assistant coach and assistant pitching coach for UT Arlington in the Fall of 2024.

"We are excited to add Austin to our program. His knowledge of the analytics and technology will help take our pitching staff to the next level. He has a great baseball mind and we are fortunate to have him join our staff. His Dad is one of the best high school coaches in the state of Texas, so baseball runs deep in his family," said Trout.

The summer of 2024 saw him work with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League as the director of pitching development and assistant pitching coach.

Wallace played five years of collegiate baseball beginning with Texas for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. After spending the following two years at Wichita State, he completed his collegiate career at UTA in 2024. For his career, he made 19 appearances on the mound with four starts.

In the spring of 2025, he graduated with his Masters of Science in Business Administration from UT Arlington. Wallace completed his bachelor of arts degree in sport management in May 2023 at Wichita State.

"I am thrilled to join such a talented staff led by Coach Trout and be part of a very exciting program that continues to rise. I cannot wait to get started and help in any way to win games and develop our guys into better players and people," said Wallace.

Stivors, a former Bobcat standout on the mound, returns to San Marcos after pitching three years in the Chicago White Sox organization. Drafted by the Sox in the 14th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, he put together a 7-4 record and seven saves and 101 strikeouts over 62 relief outings.

"Tristan Stivors is a Bobcat legend and to have him on staff was a no brainer. He can really help our staff relating to our players because he did so at the highest level," said Trout. "He will assist Coach Blakley and Wallace in developing our pitching staff. We are excited to have the 2022 Stopper of the Year back in the maroon and gold."

The Castroville, Texas native set the Texas State mark for career saves with 27 with a single season record 18 in 2022. He helped lead Texas State to the winner-take-all game of the 2022 Stanford Regional. Stivors made his lone career start in the contest, going seven innings and striking out nine while giving up one run on his way to earning all-regional team honors.

"I'd like to thank Coach Trout and Coach Blakley for this opportunity to come back and coach at my alma mater. It has always been a dream of mine to coach one day and I wouldn't have wanted to start off anywhere else besides Texas State," said Stivors. "WE have a great staff this year and an even better group of players. I'm excited to see the guys compete this Fall and then once it gets to Spring fighting for that chance to get to Omaha."

Stivors was named the NCBWA Stopper of the Year in 2022 after leading the nation in saves. He became the program's first-ever consensus First Team All while also being picked as the Sun Belt Conference Male Athlete of the Year and be chosen to the all-conference first team.
