Five Bobcats Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Five Texas State baseball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday. Earning the honors were Bryson Dudley, Austin Eaton, Ryne Farber, Samson Pugh and Jesus Tovar.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must have competed in 90% of the team's games or started at least 66% of the program's contests. For pitchers, they must make either 17 appearances or pitch at least 25 innings. They also must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Dudley finished the season with a 5-1 record with his victory total tied for the most on the team. He made 24 appearances that included two starts and earned two saves. The right-hander posted a 3.93 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 50.1 innings. Dudley ended the campaign by limiting opponents to a .185 batting average to set a new program single-season record.

His second start of the season came in the single-elimination game against App State in the Sun Belt Conference Championship that saw him throw a complete game shutout with 10 punch outs. Dudley surrendered only two hits while facing the minimum 27 batters in the contest. He was the first TXST hurler to throw a complete game shutout in a postseason contest in 14 years and went on to be named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team.

A first team All-Sun Belt selection as a utility player, Eaton posted a 4-3 record and 4.07 ERA on the mound. He made 13 appearances with 11 starts while striking out 37 in 48.2 innings. At the plate, the Frisco, Texas native totaled 16 hits, 13 RBI, 10 runs and four homers. His biggest long ball of the season was a three-run shot to put the Bobcats up for good in an upset win at No. 1 Texas A&M.

Farber finished the year batting .267 with 13 doubles and four homers. The sophomore scored 41 runs and recorded 33 RBI. His 30 walks, 13 hit by pitches and .382 on-base percentage were the highest on the team. Farber also swiped a team-high 17 bases, the most by a Bobcat since 2018.

Pugh recorded a team best three trips while adding six doubles and two homers. The sophomore outfielder drove in 27 runs and came around to score 26 times while swiping five bases. His five outfield assists were tied for the most on the team with all of them coming against Sun Belt Conference opponents.

Tovar pitched in 15 games and made a team-high 14 starts. The lefty claimed three victories including a complete game shutout at Louisiana on Apr. 5. It was the first time a Texas State pitcher tossed a nine-inning complete game shutout on the road since 2015 and the first in a road conference game since 2012. The El Paso native tied for second on the team with 58 strikeouts in 66.2 innings.
