SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Twilight Meet, the final home meet for the Bobcats this season, saw three athletes—Shedrack Akpeki, Melanie Duron and Danie Strooh—move up in the NCAA D1 West rankings for regional qualifying, and one Bobcat, Kason O'Riley, record a new facility record in their respective events.Â
Shedrack Akpeki had a monstrous day on the track in both the men's 100m and 200m. In the 100m, Akpeki recorded a time of 10.18 (+2.8m/s), which registered as the fastest all-conditions time in TXST history. His time secured him a spot in the NCAA West Regional Meet and ranks him 19th in the NCAA West Region.Â
He doubled back for the 200m later in the meet and recorded a PR of 20.75, which moved him inside the top 48 times (No. 38) in the West Region, which qualifies him for the NCAA West Regional Meet.Â
Danie Strooh moved his way into the top 48 in the West Region after recording a PR mark of 55.98m in the men's discus throw. Strooh sits ranked 42nd in the West Region and is the seventh-best freshman in the West Region.Â
Melanie Duron improved her national rank to No. 16 and her West Region ranking to No. 10 when she recorded a PR of 17.38m and set a new meet record for the Bobcat Twilight meet. Her mark of 17.38 meters registered as the third-best mark in TXST history.Â
A week after recording a mark of 2.25m and placing second at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, Kason O'Riley returned to the high jump and recorded a mark of 2.21m and placed first in the event. His mark broke the facility and the meet record and goes down as the fourth-best jump in TXST history.Â
The final regional qualifying list will be released next week after the conclusion of all NCAA D1 conference championship meets. The NCAA West Regional will be hosted by Texas A&M and runs from May 28-31.Â
