SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (12-15) makes the trek up I-35 to face 5th-ranked Texas (23-3) on Tuesday in the Lone Star State's capital. The first pitch for the contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Bobcats are coming off a series loss to Coastal Carolina at home over the weekend. The lone win for the team was a 1-0 victory on Saturday. It was the team's first shutout of the season and first by a 1-0 scoreline at Bobcat Ballpark since Apr. 12, 2013 against Louisiana Tech.
Ryne Farber leads the team with 31 hits, 20 runs, 12 walks, seven hit by pitches and seven stolen bases. He is second on the team with a .304 batting average behind Ian Collier's .339 mark and both have driven in 12 runs. Chase Mora paces the squad with 17 RBI and seven doubles while hitting three homers.
Slated to start on the rubber is Shane Connell. The right-hander started last Wednesday's contest against Incarnate Word that was halted and cancelled due to inclement weather. For the season, he has a 9.64 ERA with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings in four relief appearances.
Out of the bullpen, Matthew Tippies sports a 2-0 record, 3.10 ERA and is second on the staff with 33 strikeouts in 20.1 innings over 13 outings. Carson Laws has picked up six saves in 11 games. The right-hander has struck out 20 in 16 innings and has a 3.94 ERA.
ABOUT TEXAS
The Longhorns enter Tuesday on a six-game winning streak after sweeping Missouri over the weekend on the road. The winning streak also includes two victories over then 2nd-ranked LSU and a run-rule win against Sam Houston last Tuesday. UT is 12-2 at home this season with the losses coming against UTSA in 12 innings and the series opener against the Tigers.
Both Ryan Galvan and Will Gasparino have hit a team-high nine home runs. Gasparino is pacing the squad with 31 RBI, followed by Jalin Flores (7 HR) with 26 and Galvan with 25. Ethan Mendoza is hitting a team best .392 and has scored 32 runs.
Getting the start on Tuesday will be Kade Bing. The lefty is 1-0 with a 3.93 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 12 strikeouts over 18.1 innings. He has appeared in six games and made four starts.
Of the Longhorns' 12 saves, half have been earned by Dylan Volantis. He is 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 27 punch outs over 23 innings. Max Grubbs comes in with a 3-0 record, four saves, 1.44 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 25 frames spanning nine relief outings. Picking up two saves has been Thomas Burns (4.26 ERA, 8 K).
SERIES VS. LONGHORNS
Texas leads the all-time series 56-16. However, Texas State has won four of the last six meetings. Last season saw the Bobcats two of the three contests between the squads with victories in Austin and Houston. It was the first time TXST has won the season series since 2001.
When playing in Austin, Texas State is 13-44 all-time but have won the last three games. The streak is the second longest in program history behind a four-game winning streak from May 2, 2000 to Apr. 23, 2002.
