Double Midweek Action Against Alamo City Teams

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Two midweeks games for Texas State (11-12) will see the team take on both Alamo City Division I programs. First up will be a trip to take on I-35 rival UTSA (19-7) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Roadrunner Field. On Wednesday, Incarnate Word comes to Bobcat Ballpark for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

 

Fans can catch Tuesday's game on ESPN+ while Wednesday's contest won't be broadcast due to the softball game being on the streaming network. Live stats will be available for both games.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE

The Bobcats are coming off a weekend sweep of Arkansas State. It was the first Sun Belt Conference sweep since May 5-7, 2023 against Georgia State. Texas State is 3-6 when playing on the road this season with a 2-6 mark in true road games while sporting an 8-6 home mark.

 

Ryne Farber leads the team with a .326 batting average, 28 hits, 18 runs, 12 walks and six stolen bases. The sophomore has also recorded 12 RBI and five doubles. Chase Mora has seen his batting average increase 100 points over the past 10 games to .292 that has seen him record 16 hits including a 4-for-4 day on Sunday with two doubles and one home run. He also paces the team with 13 RBI.

 

Scheduled to make his first start on the mound this season against the Roadrunners is Jackson Mayo. The lefty is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings over three relief appearances. Wednesday's starter is still to be decided.

 

Both Bryson Dudley and Matthew Tippie have come out of the bullpen 11 times this season. Dudley is 3-1 with one save, 24 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. Tippie has a 1-0 mark, 25 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA in 16.2 innings. Carson Laws has earned five saves this season while striking out 16 in 14.1 innings to go along with a 3.77 ERA.

 

ABOUT UTSA

The Roadrunners are coming off a road series win over Charlotte to open conference play. Over the last eight games, UTSA is 4-4 with wins that includes a win apiece over Dallas Baptist and Texas on the road. When playing at home, the Roadrunners are 13-1 with the lone loss coming on Mar. 11 against Incarnate Word by an 8-5 score.

 

Mason Lytle paces the squad with a .417 average, 48 hits, 33 runs and 13 doubles while adding 34 RBI and four home runs. Drew Detlefsen is hitting .340 with a team-high six round trippers and 37 RBI. Also with four or more homers are Caden Miller (5), Andrew Stucky (4) and James Taussig (4).

 

Right-hander Gunnar Brown will get the ball to start on Tuesday. He comes in with a 1-0 record, 4.22 ERA and 12 strikeouts over four games, including one start.

 

The lone save has been earned by Braylon Owens, who is 4-1 with a 4.58 ERA and has punched out 38 while appearing in eight games including six starts. Kendall Dove (1-0, 4.00 ERA, 17 K, 18.0 IP) has made a team-high 10 relief outings.

 

SERIES VS. ROADRUNNERS

Texas State leads the all-time series 63-40. The past three seasons have seen the programs split the regular season meetings with the home team winning each time in 2022 and 2024 while the road team claiming the contests in 2023.

 

When playing in San Antonio, the Bobcats are 27-21 all-time. Last season, UTSA won at home by a score of 11-9. TXST's last win at Roadrunner Field was a 5-3 contest on Apr. 18, 2023.

 

ABOUT INCARNATE WORD

The Cardinals ended an 11-game conference losing streak on Sunday with a 4-3 win at Nicholls. Since their win over Texas State on Mar. 4, UIW has gone just 4-9 with three of the victories coming in midweek action.

 

Daniel Calabrese is hitting a team-high .378 with 26 runs, 22 RBI, six doubles and three homers. Both Rob Liddington (.349 avg, 9 HR) and Rey Mendoza (8 2B, 6 HR) have driven in a team leading 30 runs. Former Bobcats Ryder Hernandez is hitting .287 with four doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI.

 

Wednesday's starter is still to be decided as UIW plays at Prairie View A&M on Tuesday.

 

Braelin Pillot (0-1, 3.57 ERA, 13 K) has picked up three of the team's five saves. Recording a save apiece has been EJ Garcia (2-2, 7.36 ERA, 15 K) and Hunter Hargett (1-1, 2.53 ERA, 11 K).

 

SERIES VS. CARDINALS

Texas State has a 30-12 advantage in the all-time series. In the first meeting this year, UIW won 7-6 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to snap the Bobcats' five-game winning streak in the series.

 

When facing the Cardinals in San Marcos, TXST is 23-7 all-time. Texas State has won the last 11 meetings at home including a 10-0 victory in seven innings last year. Last time the Bobcats fell at home to UIW was an 8-1 game on Feb. 8, 2000.
