SAN MARCOS, Texas – Three Bobcats entered the TXST record book three times on day one of the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
Taejha Badal recorded the second-best mark in TXST history for the 200m (23.38), while
Koket Jimata and
Jack Deelman recorded the seventh- and eighth-best 5000m times in school history.
In the women's 200m, Badal placed first overall and recorded a time of 23.38, which makes her T-23 in the NCAA for the event. She also leads the Sun Belt Conference by over 0.2 seconds.
Jimata placed first in the 5000m with a time of 14:35.46, and Deelman placed fifth with a time of 14:38.34. They now rank fourth and fifth in the SBC.
Day one of the Charlie Thomas Invite began with the women's weight throw, where four Bobcats placed inside the top 10 of the event.
Utitofon Sam was the highest-placing Bobcat, finishing fourth with a mark of 19.65m.
Elisabet Runarsdottir placed fifth with a mark of 19.38m, while
Lara Roberts and
Melanie Duron placed seventh and ninth with marks of 17.71m and 16.86m.
The throws squad continued to shine in the men's shot put.
Henry Buckles, who ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference, recorded a mark of 18.17m and placed second.
Edward Ta'amilo finished two spots behind Buckles and recorded a PR mark of 16.84m.
The prelims of the women's 60m race began the action on the track, and TXST had three athletes qualify for the semifinal round on Saturday. Badal,
Ma'Khi Falkquay and
Kaylee Lewis will compete in the next round of the 60m.
Badal placed 10th with a time of 7.49, Falkquay placed 13th with a time of 7.57, and Lewis recorded a time of 7.65 and placed 19th.
On the men's side,
Drew Donley qualified for the semifinals and tied his PR of 6.77. He sits 0.02 seconds away from joining the TXST record book for the event.
In the 200m he placed sixth overall and recorded a time of 21.26 in the event.
Two Texas State athletes also qualified for the next round of the men's 60m hurdles.Â
Mihajlo Katanic placed eighth with a PR of 8.43 andÂ
Victor Petrov marked a 9.49 to finish 13th.
