SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball will open its 2025 season on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5 pm as they host #14 Arkansas inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bobcats will host the Texas State Tournament starting on Thursday which runs through Sunday. Texas State will host Arkansas, Lipscomb, Bradley and San Diego in this tournament, playing one game against each.Â
Â
Texas State, which is coming off a 47-win campaign and NCAA tournament appearance, was selected first in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches' Poll and is receiving votes in the national polls.

The Bobcats will open the season with 16-straight home games. The 'Cats will host three straight tournaments to start the season before going to Texas A&M for its fourth.Â

Texas State will open this first tournament with the game against Arkansas, then will play San Diego on Feb. 6 at 5:45 pm. The Bobcats will then play both Lipscomb and Bradley on Feb. 8 at 2:30 and 4:45 pm.

GAME NOTES
- Texas State returns all 10 players from last year's team, including preseason All-Conference selections Maddy Azua and Ciara Trahan. The Bobcats also return Megan Kelnar (catcher), Emilee Baker (outfield), Sydney Harvey (UTL), Karmyn Bass (catcher), Makayla Hall (catcher), Presley Glende (pitcher), Analisa Soliz (pitcher) and Abigail Jennings (pitcher).Â
- Junior Kat Zarate returned for 2025 but is out for the season with an injury.
- Head coach Ricci Woodard will enter her 25th season at the helm of Texas State softball.
- A coach with 13 conference championships and 11 NCAA Regional appearances, Woodard enters the season with 844 career wins.
- Woodard is 21st among active Division I coaches in career wins. Woodard is one of just 11 of the top-25 winningest head coaches to accumulate all her wins at one program.
- Texas State has won three-consecutive Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors, with Azua being recently named the 2025 season award recipient.Â
- Senior Ciara Trahan is just one of two on the roster this year, with Presley Glende being the other. Trahan was named preseason All-Conference in the Sun Belt.
- Head coach Ricci Woodard has put together a roster of entirely Texans this season. Woodard is just one of two known programs in the nation with the entirety of their roster being from Texas. The lone other program is Sam Houston, who the Bobcats will host in Bobcat Softball Stadium on Feb. 19
- Texas State plays all its games in February except two at home and will look to maintain a winning record in the opening month for the 5th straight year.
- Texas State is 35-17 in February over the last four seasons.
