Sakke Siltala were named to the 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday.
532 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. The Bobcats were one of 25Â Division I programs to have at least five recipients.

It is the third time for Nyland to receive the honor and second time for
Jack Burke, Marcela Garza and Karlsen. Siltala is an honoree for the first time in his career.

Burke was one of four Bobcats to average below 73 per round as the Orange, Texas native posted a 72.6. Three times he finished as the top finisher for TXST in a tournament with his best finish overall seeing him tie for third in the All-American Intercollegiate at 4-under-par. He would go on to earn All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team honors.

Garza, also an All-Sun Belt Third Team selection, had two top 10 finishes with those coming in back-to-back tournaments as he shot 1-under-par at the All-American Intercollegiate and then even-par during the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The senior ended the campaign with a 72.3 scoring average while finishing second on the squad with 78 birdies.

Karlsen played in nine tournaments this season on the way to averaging 72.9 per round. His six eagles over the year were tied for the most by a Bobcat.

Three top 25 finishes were recorded by Nyland in the 2023-24 season. The senior from Denmark saved his best performance of the year until the Sun Belt Championship where he finished tied for seventh at one-over par to help Texas State qualify for the match play portion of the championship for the first-time ever.

Siltala paced the Bobcats in scoring average (71.7), birdies (90), top 10 finishes (3), top 5 finishes (2) and shared the team lead with six eagles. The Finnish sophomore shot a season-low 14-under par at the Kapolei Invitational on his way to finishing tied for fifth. Siltala also had a third-place finish with a three-round score of 207 (-6) at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. He concluded the year being named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team.

To be named a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. They must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.
