ERIE, Colorado – The Texas State men's golf team closed out the final round of action at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Tuesday with a 2-under final round to finish the event ninth on the team leaderboard at -12.
Ben Loveard (71-70-69--210) led the Bobcats in the 100-player field tying for 21st with a scorecard that included an unblemished 3-under final 18. The senior now has three top 25 finishes in as many tournaments this season.
Arkansas State won the event at -42, with Colorado (-41) and Long Beach State (-40) rounding out the top three.
"Not the result we were looking for this week. We got off to a great start in round one and then couldn't move forward after that," Head Coach
Shane Howell said. "We need to strive for three consistent rounds instead of one great round per tournament. We have one more chance this fall to compete and we look forward to the challenge."
Bryce Womack (70-71-71--212) collected three rounds under par at the tournament to finish second in the TXST lineup at -4, good to tie for 35th.
Jaxon Donaldson (66-74-73--213), who opened with a team-low 66 on the first 18, checked in at tied for 42nd after a +1 final round put him at 3-under across 54 holes.
Rounding out the Bobcat lineup were
Brannan Cox (+3, T67) and
Sakke Siltala (+14, T94).
Individually,
Enzo Dakiche tied for 18th at the Les Fowler Individual Invitational at +3.
TXST returns to action October 20-22 for the L&G Collegiate Championship hosted by Saint Mary's at the Bayonet Golf Club in Monterey Bay, California.
