SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State's Easton Hammond, a freshman from Temple, Texas, will compete at the 2024 USATF U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon this Wednesday and Thursday. 
 
Hammond will compete in the Decathlon at the U20 Championships. Going into the meet he leads the field of 13 decathletes, with the highest point total (7297) for the event. He earned this point total at the Bobcat Invitational meet hosted in San Marcos earlier this year and recorded the 6th-best point total in school history. 
 
If he can place first or second at the USATF U20 Championships he will qualify for World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, which takes place August 27-31. 
 
During the 2024 outdoor season, he placed third at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the decathlon and earned 7069 total points. He also qualified for the high jump at the NCAA West Prelims with his PR jump of 2.10m/6-10.75.
