Bobcats and #21 Trojans to Battle at Bobcat Ballpark

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final games at Bobcat Ballpark this season for Texas State (24-25, 10-14 Sun Belt) take place this weekend against 21st-ranked Troy (34-16, 16-8 Sun Belt). Friday's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch and Saturday's contest will start at 4 p.m. The finale on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
 
Prior to the game on Friday, the 10 Bobcats that will be graduating this weekend will have a special commencement ceremony at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at 3:25 p.m., the team will recognize its 16 seniors playing their final home collegiate home games this weekend and Sunday has Mother's Day first pitch scheduled.
 
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.

Friday: TXST RHP Cameron Bush (0-0, 4.41 ERA) vs. TROY RHP Garrett Gainous (2-2, 5.40 ERA)
Saturday: TXST RHP Drayton Brown (2-3, 3.32 ERA) vs. TROY RHP Luke Lyon (7-2, 3.51 ERA)
Sunday: TXST RHP Tony Robie (4-3, 6.60 ERA) vs. TROY TBA
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Last weekend saw TXST win its third conference series of the season and first since late March after winning the first two games against Old Dominion. The Bobcats enter the weekend in 11th place in the Sun Belt standings and one game back of Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and South Alabama for one of the last 10 spots for the conference tournament.
 
Ryne Farber has continued his hot streak at the plate since returning from an injury. In his 11 games back in the lineup, he is hitting .439 (18-for-41) scored 12 runs, recorded seven RBI and hit four doubles. The freshman continues to be one of the toughest players to strikeout in the nation with one every 19.4 at-bats. For the season, Farber is batting .387 with 34 runs, 25 RBI, 23 walks and six stolen bases.
 
Also hitting over .300 is Aaron Lugo (.317) and Kameron Weil (.342). Lugo leads the team with 53 hits, 51 runs scored, 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases. Chase Mora has a team leading 44 RBI and Daylan Pena has hit 14 doubles and driven in 40 runs.
 
Senior Cameron Bush is slated to start on Friday for the third time in the last four weeks. The right-hander comes in with a 4.41 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 34.2 innings. Drayton Brown, who will start on Saturday, is 2-3 with a 3.23 ERA and team-high 43 strikeouts. Rounding out the rotation on Sunday is Tony Robie. The senior right-hander is 4-3 with 39 punch outs in 43.1 innings over 19 games including nine starts.
 
ABOUT TROY
The Trojans come into San Marcos on a two-game losing streak after dropping a 7-6 contest to Alabama on Tuesday and falling in extra-innings last Sunday against Louisiana. Troy has won six of its eight conference series with the exceptions being against South Alabama and Southern Miss. On the road, the Trojans are 16-8 with an 8-4 mark versus Sun Belt opponents.
 
Five batters are hitting over .300 led by Ethan Kavanagh at .375. Kyle Mock, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, comes in hitting .353 with nine homers and 42 RBI. Kole Myers is 31-for-33 stealing bases while batting .342 with nine long balls, 73 runs scored and 35 RBI. Hitting double-digit homers has been Brooks Bryan (81 RBI) and Will Butcher (70 RBI, 19 2B) with 17 and 15, respectively.
 
Friday will see Garrett Gainous get the ball as the right-hander comes in 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 33.1 innings over 11 starts. Sporting a 7-2 record is Saturday's starter Luke Lyon. Troy's Sunday starter is still to be announced.
 
SERIES VS. THE TROJANS
The all-time series is 15-9 in Troy's favor. Last season, the Trojans won the first two games at home while Texas State salvaged the series with a 9-5 win in the finale. When hosting Troy, the Bobcats are 6-4 all-time with the last meeting at Bobcat Ballpark coming in 2019.
