SAN MARCOS, Texas – Thirteen former Texas State baseball players are currently playing professional baseball with two of them competing in MLB.

Kyle Finnegan, Washington Nationals
Finnegan is off to a strong start in the backend of the bullpen for the Nationals. He has recorded 15 saves, the fifth most in MLB and second most among National League relievers, while also going 1-3 with a 1.64 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. The right-hander has limited opponents to just eight hits and three runs since the beginning of April.

Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals
The 2022 NL MVP struggled for the first month and a half of the season. However, since May 11 Goldschmidt is batting .294 (20-for-68) with five home runs, 12 runs, 11 RBI and two stolen bases. He is 45 hits shy of his 2,000th career base knock and three homers shy of reaching 350 in his career.

Zac Leigh, Iowa Cubs (Chicago (NL), AAA)
Leigh began the season with the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Cubs. In 13 appearances in relief, he struck out 20 in 14.2 innings, recorded two holds and had a 1.23 ERA. The right-hander got promoted to the Iowa Cubs on May 18 and he has made four appearances for them since having three strikeouts in three innings of work.

Nick Fraze, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto, AA)
The season began with Fraze pitching for the Buffalo Bison at the Triple-A level. In six games, including one start, he posted eight strikeouts in 10.0 innings and earned one save. The right-hander was sent down to Double-A New Hampshire on May 8 where he has allowed just one run in 10.1 innings (0.87 ERA) with eight punch outs over five games.

Tristan Stivors, Birmingham Barons (Chicago (AL), AA)
Stivors was hurt to begin the season and spent most of April on a rehab assignment with the White Sox's Arizona Complex League team. During his time in the Grand Canyon State, he went 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 7.2 innings in six games. The right-hander joined the Birmingham Barons on the 28th and pitched in his first game at the Double-A level on the 30th.

Dalton Shuffield, Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota, High-A)
The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year has made appearances at three different affiliate levels. Most of Shuffield's appearances came at Triple-A St. Paul where he played in 10 games and totaled four RBI and three doubles. He played once at Double-A Wichita and is currently with the High-A affiliate Cedar Rapids. Shuffield has played in five games for the Kernels while hitting one home run and driving in five runs.

Levi Wells, Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore, High-A)
Wells has made 10 starts for the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The 2024 fourth round pick is 0-3 with a 7.42 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 30.1 innings. He got off to a rocky start in April with opponents hitting .370 off him in five games. The right-hander has turned it around in May as he has limited opposing batters to a .192 batting average while striking out 24 in 19.1 innings and posting a 3.72 ERA.

Donnie Hart, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (Mexican League)
Playing his 11th season of professional ball, Hart is pitching his second year with Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos of the Mexican League. The lefty has made 11 relief appearances and totaled six strikeouts over 5.2 innings. He is also 2-0 with a 4.76 ERA.

Jaylen Hubbard, Windy City ThunderBolts (Frontier League)
Hubbard has played in 15 games for Windy City in his first season with the team. He has driven in nine runs, scored nine runs and stole three bases.

Jose Gonzales, Yolo High Wheelers (Pioneer League)
The Pioneer League season began on May 21 and Gonzales has helped the Yolo High Wheelers to a 4-2 start. In five games, he is batting .538 (7-for-13) with three RBI, four runs, six walks, one triple and one double. Gonzales is coming off a 3-for-3 day in a 4-1 victory on May 30 over the Grandy Junction Jackalopes.

Hunter McMahon, Kansas City Monarchs (American Association)
Beginning the season with the Wichita Wind Surge, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, McMahon made eight appearances out of the bullpen and went 1-0 with one save. He struck out four in 14.1 innings and had a 5.65 ERA before being released on May 6.

McMahon was signed by the Kansas City Monarchs on May 19 and made his debut in the American Association by throwing 1.2 innings against Winnipeg. The right-hander has made four appearances in relief with the Monarchs while recording a 1.92 ERA and striking out three in 4.2 innings.

Nathan Medrano, Tri-City ValleyCats (Frontier League)
Medrano has made 10 relief appearances on the season. In that time, he has recorded a 2-3 record and one save. The right-handers also has a 2.92 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. His longest outing was three innings of work on May 12 at Windy City in which he struck out three.

Zeke Wood, Tri-City ValleyCats (Frontier League)
In his first professional season, Wood has made four appearances on the mound with two starts for Tri-City. He has struck out seven and a 4.76 ERA in 5.2 innings. The right-hander started the last two games he has pitched with two punch outs in each contest.
