Baseball Heads Down I-35 to Face UTSA

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The month of April concludes with Texas State (22-23) heading to San Antonio to take on I-35 rival UTSA (25-18) on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first pitch from Roadrunner Field.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats are coming off their second 10-0 run-rule victory in seven innings in the past week. The first one was against Incarnate Word at home and the other was the series finale at Arkansas State to salvage the series. In midweek games this season, TXST is 8-4 with a 3-1 record in road games.
 
In the seven games since his return to the lineup, Ryne Farber is batting .520 (13-for-25), scored nine runs, driven in three runs and hit two doubles. He is hitting .398 on the season with 31 runs scored and 21 RBI.
 
A team leading 39 RBI and 14 doubles have been recorded by Daylan Pena. The junior is second on the team with seven home runs behind Aaron Lugo's nine long balls, who has scored a team best 45 runs. Driving in more than 30 runs this year as well has been Chase Mora (38), August Ramirez (31) and Lugo (33).
 
Slated to start in the Alamo City on the mound is Tony Robie. The senior will be making his eighth start of the season and 39th in his career. He is 4-3 with a 6.69 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 36.1 innings spanning 17 games.
 
ABOUT UTSA
The Roadrunners are coming off a series loss on the road to Rice. They salvaged the series with a victory Sunday afternoon. UTSA is 5-4 in midweek games this season with a 2-1 mark in home contests. Overall when playing at home, the Roadrunners have posted a 14-8 record.
 
Six UTSA batters are hitting over .300 led by Mason Lytle at .385. He also paces the squad with 35 RBI, 15 doubles, 14 stolen bases and his nine home runs are tied for the most on the squad. Also hitting nine round trippers has been Caleb Hill (.351 AVG), who has scored a team best 49 times and driven in 35 runs. Both Matt King (.325 AVG) and James Taussig (.308 AVG) have plated 34 and 30 runs, respectively.
 
Tuesday's starter for the Roadrunners has yet to be announced.
 
Ruger Riojas has earned six saves while posting a 7-2 record, 2.58 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 52.1 innings over 18 games. Claiming four saves has been Fischer Kingsbery. He is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 26.2 innings and 28 punch outs. Daniel Garza comes in with a 3-1 record, two saves, a 5.48 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 46.0 innings.
 
SERIES VS. THE ROADRUNNERS
Texas State leads the all-time series 63-39 after winning the first meeting this season 14-13 in San Marcos on Mar. 19. The previous two years have seen the teams split the season series. When facing UTSA on the road, the Bobcats are 27-20 that includes a 5-3 win last season.
 
Since 2014 when the programs were no longer conference mates, the teams have met 22 times with TXST holding a 12-10 advantage.
