Roberts Named Sun Belt Women's Field Performer of the Week

Roberts is the fifth Bobcat to earn the award this season

San Marcos, Texas – Lara Roberts was named the Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 24, the conference announced on Wednesday.Ā

Roberts set the meet record and placed first in the women's hammer throw at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster on Saturday. She recorded a throw of 65.06m/213-5, which is her second-best mark of the season.Ā 
Ā 
Nationally speaking, Roberts is the No.1 ranked freshman in the country and is ranked No. 12 overall in the women's hammer throw. Roberts is the only freshman in the NCAA to record a throw of over 65 meters, which she has done twice this season.Ā

This marks the first time Roberts has earned the Sun Belt award and she became the fifth Bobcat to earn a weekly honor this season, joining Elisabet Runarsdottir, Chris Preddie, Dominick Yancy and Daniel Harrold.Ā

Texas State track and field will travel to Austin, to participate at the Texas Invitational. The two-day meet begins Friday and continues into Saturday.Ā
