Bobcats Host Jaguars for Three-Game Set

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The lone home weekend series in April is this weekend for Texas State (19-19, 6-9 Sun Belt) when it hosts South Alabama (21-16, 6-9 Sun Belt) for a key Sun Belt Conference series. All weekend long it will be Alumni and Throwback weekend at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Friday's game will begin at 6 p.m. and Saturday's contest is slated for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch. The series finale will start at 11:30 a.m.
 
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available. Sunday's contest will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the weekend on a two-game winning streak after defeating Incarnate Word on the road Tuesday afternoon. After winning their first two Sun Belt series, they have dropped their last three. This weekend begins a four-game homestand that will conclude on Tuesday against the Cardinals.
 
Kameron Weil comes in batting .329 with 14 runs scored and a team leading six stolen bases. Daylan Pena is batting .318 with a team leading 12 doubles and saw his 32-game reached base streak come to an end on Tuesday. Both he and Chase Mora have a team-high 32 RBI. Aaron Lugo enters pacing the squad with 39 runs scored and nine home runs.
 
Slated to start on Friday is Cameron Bush. The right-hander will be making his first weekend start since Mar. 17, 2023 against Southern Miss. For the season, the Round Rock, Texas native has a 5.13 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 26.1 innings over 14 games including two midweek starts.
 
Both starters for Saturday and Sunday are still to be announced.
 
ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
The Jaguars enter having won two straight games after winning at Tulane on Wednesday. USA is 6-6 in true road games this season with a 3-3 mark against Sun Belt opponents. The only series win for the Jaguars came on the road at Troy while they also dropped a series at Old Dominion.
 
Micah Morgan, the lone Jaguar hitting above .300, increased his team leading batting average to .383 after going 4-for-4 on Wednesday against the Green Wave. The trio of Lucas Ismaili (28 RBI), Joseph Sullivan (31 R, 26 RBI, 13 SB) and Will Turner (34 R, 16 RBI, 10 2B, 10 SB) have hit a team-high seven homers apiece. Turner has drawn 44 walks that ranks third nationally and second int eh Sun Belt behind the 47 worked by Troy's Kole Myers.
 
Getting the call to start on Friday is Cam Hill. The lefty is 3-2 with a 5.11 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 44.0 innings. Starters for Saturday and Sunday are still to be announced.
 
Earning a conference leading seven saves has been Grant Wood. The right-hander has a 3.89 ERA and 22 punch outs over 14 innings spanning 15 games. Gant Starling has also made 15 relief appearances and is 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA, one save and 20 strikeouts over 13 frames.
 
SERIES VS. THE JAGUARS
South Alabama leads the all-time series 18-9. Last season saw the Jaguars win the last two games of the series to claim the series in Mobile.
 
When hosting USA, Texas State is 6-9 all-time. The last two series in San Marcos have seen the Bobcats win the first two games before dropping the series finale.
