San Marcos, Texas – After taking the past weekend off from meet action, Texas State track and field will split to participate in two meets this week. A select group of sprinters and throwers will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial, while the rest of the team will travel to the Kingsville Cactus Cup hosted in Kingsville, Texas.

The Tom Jones Memorial
The two-day meet begins tomorrow at 11 pm CT and runs into Saturday. The meet will feature some of the fastest athletes in the country and the Bobcats will be up against nationally-ranked opponents Florida, Auburn, South Florida and LSU.

Nationally-ranked women's hammer throwers
Elisabet Runarsdottir (No. 1) and
Lara Roberts (No.7)Â will be representing the Bobcats in the event on Saturday. Runarsdottir will once again match up against Icelandic foe Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir, who is ranked second in the country behind Runarsdottir.Â

This event will also feature a matchup between the Ole Miss and Texas State women's throw squads who are ranked number one and two in the country for the hammer throw.Â

The men's 4x400 relay-team, made up of
Dominick Yancy,
Brian West,
Taahir Kelly and
Shawn Collins, will be competing at the meet on Saturday. The Bobcats look to improve on their season best time of 3:06.64 and will have the chance to do so against some of the top ranked teams in the country.Â

Daniel Harrold, who sits ranked No. 18 in the country for the men's 110 hurdles, will compete on Saturday at the meet. Harrold looks to improve on his school record time of 13.61 that he set two weekends ago at the Bobcat Invitational.Â

Kingsville Cactus Cup
The Kingsville Cactus Cup is a one-day meet that begins at 12 pm on Saturday with the field events while the running events start at 5:30 pm.Â

The men's jump squad, who was ranked No. 10 in last week's USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings, will return to action on Saturday.
Chris Preddie leads the jump squad in the long jump, with a season best mark of 7.99m/26-2.75 and is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation for the event.

Preddie will compete at 2 pm Saturday in the long jump and at 8 pm in the triple jump.Â

Abigail Parra will also return to action for the distance squad after setting the school record in the women's 1500 meters at the Bobcat Invitational. Parra is currently ranked No. 3 in the Sun Belt rankings for the event.Â
