Box Score HUNTINGTON, W.Va – Texas State women's tennis dropped its match against Marshall 7-0 on Thursday. This marked the second conference loss of the year for the Bobcats (9-4, 3-2 Sun Belt).
In what was a matchup between two of the top-five teams in the Sun Belt standings, Marshall (14-6, 5-1 Sun Belt) dealt the Bobcats their first loss this season in which they did not register a team point.
Doubles
On the first court,
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora were matched against Marshall's Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden, who were 4-1 in conference play coming into the match. Fortuno and Lora dropped the match 6-1.
The Thundering Herd secured the doubles point on court two, after defeating the Texas State duo of
Jadeh Chan and
Mae McCutcheon 6-3.
Emma Carr and
Emily Niers' match went unfinished on court three after Marshall secured the doubles point.
Singles
The first singles point was earned on court three, where Niers was matched against Marshall's Doroteja Joksovic. Jokosovic defeated Niers in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Marshall secured the last two points needed to win the match with wins on court six and court one. On court six, Lora dropped her match 6-3, 6-3 and on court one
Kiana Graham fell in straight sets to Marshall's Strom 6-1, 7-5.
Despite Marshall securing the points needed to win the match, the Bobcats still showed fight and forced three-set matches on courts five, four and two.
Andrea Pineda was featured on court five and battled back to win the second set 6-1 after dropping the first set 6-1. Pineda fell 6-2 in the third set and lost only her third singles match of the season.
On court four, Fortuno dropped her second singles match in conference play with a three-set decision 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
Callie Creath was the last Bobcat to finish play on court No. 2. Creath won the first set 6-0 but fell in the last two sets 6-4 (7), 6-2. It marked Creath's first singles loss in conference this season and moved her overall record to 9-3.
The Bobcats head to North Carolina for a matchup against App State on Saturday at 9 am CST.
