SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Jake Smith put on a performance in the men's 10,000 meters on Thursday, with a meet-record time of 30:58.50 to end day one of the Bobcat Invitational. The previous meet record of 31:53.44 was set in 2022 by Incarnate Word's Jett Montes. Smith is ranked 8th in the country for the event and put himself in the Texas State record books, with the 10th-fastest time in school history.
The women's throw squad had an excellent showing for the Bobcats at both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational on Thursday. At the Texas Relays,
Elisabet Runarsdottir, the No. 1 ranked women's hammer thrower, placed second in the meet with a mark of 66.85m/219-4, while her teammate
Lara Roberts placed fourth with a throw of 63.46m/208-2.
At the Bobcat Invitational, the women's discus squad all placed in the top-10 and recorded PRs.
Utitofon Sam won the event with a mark of 54.38m/178-5, which ranked 22nd in the country and 7th-best in school history.
Carly Watts placed sixth with a PR of 50.62m/166-1 and
Lauryn Small set a PR and placed eighth with a mark of 47.82m/156-10.
For the men's throw squad,
Michaelangelo Bullard recorded a PR and placed second in the javelin throw. Bullard recorded the 7th-best throw in school history with a mark of 64.35m/211-1.
Freshman
Easton Hammond, finished day one of the men's decathlon in second place. Hammond recorded a PR in all five events on day one. His biggest accomplishment came in the high jump portion, when he recorded a jump of 2.10m/6-10.75 and won the event.
The Distance Squad capped off night one of the Bobcat Invitational with two top-3 finishes in the men's and women's 5000 meters. Freshman
Alexia Tiscareno Macias placed second in the women's 5000 meters with a PR of 17:55.63 and on the men's side
Nathan Morales placed third with a time of 15:00.41.
