Women's Basketball is Back in Strahan Arena

After four-straight road games the Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State women's basketball is set to play its final four games of the season at home, beginning this week with games versus Marshall and Louisiana.

SERIES HISTORY
  • There has only been one meeting between Marshall and Texas State in the history of the programs. Texas State won the lone meeting on Feb. 11, 2023 by a 64-60 score line.
  • The Bobcats have won 11 of 28 meetings with the Ragin' Cajuns. The last time these two teams met was on Jan. 27, 2024 in Lafayette. The Bobcats lost 59-52. The last time these two teams played in San Marcos was Jan. 7, 2023 and the Bobcats lost 71-51. 
MEET THE ROSTER
  • Ja'Niah Henson came to Texas State after four years at Morgan State. She's averaging 14.8 points per game, the most of any Bobcat. In the Bobcats game against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, she scored her 1000th career point as well. She is among the best free-throw shooters in the nation, shooting 92.6% from the line.
  • Gara Beth Self transferred to Texas State after playing four years at ULM. She and Henson are co-captain for the Bobcats.
  • The Bobcats also brought in Western Kentucky transfer Jaylin Foster. Both Foster and Self have been consistent members of the starting five for the Bobcats in each of the games so far this season.
  • Tiffany Tullis and Crystal Smith join the Bobcats after two years at Blinn Junior College where the pair reached the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship tournament. 
  • The Bobcats had four players returning to the team this season including seniors Sierra DicksonNicole Leff and Morgan Hill. Dickson and Leff are the only seniors on the roster who have played their full four years at Texas State. Additionally, sophomore Kennedy Claybrooks is amongst the returners. Morgan Hill is in her second season with the Bobcats after transferring from ULM.
  • The Bobcats also have two freshman, Julia Coleman and Emillia Steele
ABOUT THE THUNDERING HERD
  • The Herd are 19-6 this season13-1 in conference play and are 1st in the Sun Belt Conference so far.
  • Leading the way for the Herd is head coach Kim Caldwell who is in her 1st season with the program. She has a 19-6 record all-time with the program, and a 210-30 record in her career.
  • Marshall has four players averaging double-digits a night. Leading the way is Roshala Scott who is averaging 21.0 a night. Abby Beeman is good for 16.5 while Breanna Campbell knocks down 15.0 and Aislynn Hates goes for 14.2.
  • Leading the boards for the Herd is Abby Beeman who averages 6.0 a night. 
ABOUT THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
  • The Ragin Cajuns are 12-12 season, 7-7 in conference play and are 9th in the Sun Belt.
  • Leading the way for the Bobcats is head coach Gary Broadhead who is in his 12th season with the program. He has a 197-163 record all-time with the program.
  • Brandi Williams and Tamera Johnson lead the scoring for the Ragin' Cajuns, averaging 11.0 and 10.5 points a night.
  • Johnson also leads in rebounds with 6.5 a night.
RANKINGS & RECORDS
  • Ja'Niah Henson is second in the Sun Belt Conference and 4th in the nation for her free throw shooting. The graduate student is 90-97 from the line this season for a .926 shooting percentage. 
  • Texas State is the second best in the conference defensively while allowing opponents just 62.2 points a night.
 
WHATS ON THE HORIZON? 
  • The Bobcats will host Southern Miss and ULM on Feb. 28 and March 1 to close the regular season slate.
  • The Sun Belt Conference women's basketball tournament will run from March 5-11 in Pensacola, Florida.
