Ryann Torres Named Setter of the Year, Three Bobcats Earn All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference offices announced the 2024 volleyball All-Conference Awards on Wednesday. Texas State's Ryann Torres was named Sun Belt Setter of the Year.

The Bobcats also had three players named to the All-Conference First Team, Sam Wunsch, Ryann Torres and Jade Defraeye.

Texas State was one of four teams this season to earn three all-conference team members, with App State having the most of anyone with four players named to the all-conference teams.

Torres was named Sun Belt Setter of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team as she led the conference with 10.87 assists per set during conference play. She helped the Bobcats to the second best attack percentage in the conference this season, a .240. Torres was one of just two Sun Belt setters with over 590 assists in conference play, which she did in just 55 sets. Torres was also helpful on both sides of the ball with an average of 2.62 digs per set. Torres was named Sun Belt Setter of the Week three times, one of just two Sun Belt Setters to win three times. Torres was named All-Conference in 2023 as well.

Defraeye was the leader of the Bobcats block this season, which was one of the best in the Sun Belt. Defraeye had 73 blocks during conference play, for an average of 1.28 per set, which was among the best in the conference. Defraeye contributed to the Bobcats lock-down defense which limited opposing offenses to just a .168 attack percentage. Defraeye also helped offensively with a league-best .396 attack percentage with 116 kills this season. She was the only player in the Sun Belt to have over 100 kills while maintaining fewer than 25 errors in league play. This is Defraeye's second all-conference honor of her career, after being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

Wunsch was all-around elite for the Bobcats this season as she contributed on both sides of the ball. Wunsch had 234 kills in conference play for an average of 4.18 per set, which was among the best in the conference. She was the only Sun Belt player to maintain a .300+ attack percentage with over 200 kills. She was also effective on the block this season with 53 blocks during conference play. Wunsch was the only outside in the Sun Belt this season to be in the top-10 individual blockers. This is Wunsch's second all-conference honor of her career.
