Bobcats Find A Way to 67-58 Win Against App State

BOONE, N .C. Texas State got a 67-58 win against App State in its first road game of Sun Belt play. The win marked Texas State and head coach Zenarae Antoine's 100th conference win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Shooting woes and turnovers found the Bobcats in the first quarter. After scoring just eight points in the first quarter and App State putting up 19 of their own, the Bobcats trailed after one.

The second quarter was a the start of the comeback for the Bobcats. Henson shot 3-4 for 11 points while leading the team to 5-9 shooting for 16 points. That, coupled with four points off the bench from Nicole Leff and forcing the Mountaineers to shoot just 3-17, it was a flip of the first quarter. Despite the lights-out second quarter, the Bobcats knew they needed to come out of the halftime break with momentum on their side to keep the game going their way.

The third quarter was more balanced between the two sides. Despite shooting just eight shots in the third, the Bobcats knocked down five to get 17 points in the third. It was a three-point game headed into the fourth. App State shot 6-16 for 16 points. Crystal Smith started to heat up in the third quarter with five points and two rebounds. Her and Jaylin Foster combined for 10 points and both their late-game work helped the team to the win.

In the fourth quarter it was the Bobcats bench that showed out. Smith put up another five points while Morgan Hill shot 4-5 for eight of her own. That, paired with four rebounds was a difference maker in the Bobcats coming out with a win. Outscoring the Mountaineers 26-14 in the fourth quarter propelled the Bobcats to their first conference win of the year.

WHAT HEAD COACH ZENARAE ANTOINE SAID: "I'm proud of our team tonight. We battled through a lot tonight and battled from behind to come back and win this game. It was a gritty showing when the chips were stacked against us a little bit. I'm proud of how this team responded and found a way to get it done."
