LEXINGTON, KY — Texas State volleyball was awarded the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (USMC-AVCA) Team Academic Award for academic success during the 2022-23 school year. This is the programs fourth-straight year winning the award, with the streak starting back in 2020.
Along with Texas State earning its fourth honor, they were one of 12 programs in the Sun Belt Conference also honored with this award for the 2022-23 academic year. There was a record number 1,332 collegiate and high school teams awarded the Team Academic Award this season.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average (GPA) of 3.3-or-higher on a 4.0 scale or a 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. A total of 215 Division I volleyball programs were honored for its academic success throughout the 2021-22 academic year.Â
"The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored."
