Box Score PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Following a five-hour rain delay, Texas State tennis shutout Troy 4-0 in the first round of the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
"I am so pumped for our team," said Texas State tennis Head Coach
Kendall Brooks. "They continue to show up, fight and get better. We were really determined to win this match. We felt like we didn't play our best during the regular season and looked forward to another shot. We battled on every court, starting with doubles, which was huge. Excited to keep playing with this team another day. We have nothing to lose, and anything is possible."

Emily Niers made their Sun Belt Conference Championship debuts today.
Doubles
Texas State (8-14, 3-8 Sun Belt) got an early lead over Troy (13-8, 6-6 Sun Belt) after a 7-6 (8-6) tie-break win on court two from
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora.
Jadeh Chan and
Emily Niers earned the first doubles match win of the day with a 6-2 victory on line three.
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon dropped their top court match 6-0 to start the day.
Singles
All it took for the Bobcats to win the match was to win three singles matches, and they did just that.
Kate Malazonia clinched the match with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win on court three, ending her two-match losing streak.
Andrea Pineda and
Sofia Fortuno both won their matches in straight sets. Pineda moved the lead to 2-0 for the Bobcats in a 6-1, 6-3 victory on line four. Fortuno followed suit with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court five to extend her singles win streak to three matches.

Texas State will face No. 32 nationally ranked Old Dominion who earned the top seed in the tournament after claiming the 2023 Sun Belt Regular-Season Championship with a 10-0 conference record. The quarterfinals matchup between the Bobcats and the Monarchs will take place Friday at 9 a.m. CT. In March the Bobcats lost 4-3 to Old Dominion in San Marcos, Texas.
