The Texas State cheerleading program announced its 2023 signing class, featuring 21 new Bobcats for the 2023-24 academic year.
Â
The signing class has a mix of additions from Texas, Oklahoma and Indiana and works towards cheerleading head coach Ryan Riley's goal of reestablishing a coed team and increasing its ability to compete.
Â
"When recruiting this class, I knew what my goals for next year and the program moving forward are, so in recruiting I just had to look for people I thought could and would help us achieve those goals," said Riley. "The goals are to recruit enough male members to have a legitimate coed team that can return to competition in D1A at UCA College Nationals, and for all girl to continue the growth not just in size but in skill that we started back in 2020-2021 when we started the signing program. I told all, if not most, of the signing class, which is the largest signing class for Texas State Cheerleading so far, that my goal is to create a program that is a premier destination for college cheerleading in the country. I want to compete with the best and beat the best, and I think this group of kids is a huge step in that direction."
