SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis enters the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Troy in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. CT in Peachtree City, Georgia.
The Bobcats (7-14, 3-8 Sun Belt) return to the Peachtree City Tennis Center as the No.9 seed once again. In the 2022 championship Texas State defeated No. 8 App State in the first round and their tournament run ended against top seed South Alabama in the quarterfinals.
No. 32 nationally ranked Old Dominion earned the top seed after claiming the 2023 Sun Belt Regular-Season Championship with a 10-0 record in conference. Old Dominion and No. 2 James Madison earned byes to the quarterfinals.
Texas State ended the regular season with two conference wins over Louisiana and ULM.
Sofia Fortuno and
Kiana Graham went 2-0 in singles on the week. Fortuno earned her 10
th singles win this season, the most among the Bobcats. The sophomore teamed up with doubles partner
Maria Lora to get a 7-5 win on court two against ULM.
The Bobcats will be looking to avenge a 5-2 road loss to Troy on April 9.
Mae McCutcheon and
Kate Malazonia both won their singles matches in straight sets.
With a win in the first round, Texas State would play No. 1 Old Dominion on Thursday, April 27 at 9 a.m. CT.
Each of the tournament's 13 matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live results will be available.
