Bobcats Host Panthers Tuesday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final home game in April for Texas State (26-15) takes place Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark against Prairie View A&M (#). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Fans can watch the game on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Tuesday: TXST RHP Peyton Zabel (1-1, 6.11 ERA) vs. PVAMU LHP Kyle Carrick (0-2, 10.02 ERA)
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Last week saw the Bobcats start and end the week with victories while in between dropping two contests. TXST is 18-6 at home this season and closing in on its second straight 20-win campaign at Bobcat Ballpark since six consecutive years from 2009-14.
 
Davis Powell is batting a team-high .371 with 46 hits, 35 runs, 26 RBI and 14 doubles. Chase Mora comes in hitting .300 with a team leading 12 home runs and is second with 38 RBI. Leading the way with 43 RBI is Jose Gonzalez who is also batting .296 with 10 homers. On the verge of reaching double-digit round trippers is Cade Manning (8) and August Ramirez (9).
 
Starting on Tuesday will be Peyton Zabel. The right-hander will be making his seventh midweek start of the season. Last week saw him throw 3.2 scoreless inning with a career-high five strikeouts at I-35 rival UTSA. For the season, he is 1-1 with a 6.11 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17.2 innings.
 
Triston Dixon (3-1, 3.92 ERA, 5 SV) has made a team-high 20 appearances in relief and has worked a total of 39.0 innings. Jack Stroud paces all relievers with 47 strikeouts while posting a 2-2 record, 39.2 ERA and two saves in 34.1 innings. The lowest ERA among the pitchers belongs to Jonathan Martinez at 3.86. The right-hander has thrown 14.0 innings in 12 games and struck out 11 while limiting opponents to a .180 batting average.
 
ABOUT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
The Panthers wrapped up a winning weekend at home over Alcorn State. They are 3-7 in midweek contests with an 0-4 mark on the road. When playing away from home, PVAMU is 8-19 with a 7-14 mark in true road games.
 
Sebastian Coria leads the team with a .339 batting average and shares the top spot with eight doubles. He has also driven in 22 runs and hit a home run. Alex Martinez paces the squad with 28 RBI and 39 hits. The senior has hit a team best two homers along with Derek Lathon, Jr. and Blake Redman.
 
Left-hander Kyle Carrick will start on the mound. He comes in with an 0-2 record, 10.07 ERA, 17 walks and 12 strikeouts over 19.2 innings. He will be making his fourth start of the season and appearing in his 11th game overall.
 
Ty Tubbs comes in with three saves along with an 0-3 record, 4.58 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 19.2 innings over 11 games that includes two starts. Both Joshua Larzabal (2-1, 6.86 ERA) and Danny McKay (0-2, 8.05 ERA) have made a team-high 11 relief appearances.
 
SERIES VS. PANTHERS
Texas State has dominated the series with a 41-1 advantage all-time. The last 35 meets have been won by the Bobcats with the last meeting being an 8-2 victory on Mar. 15, 2022. TXST is 29-1 all-time when hosting the Panthers. The lone loss to the PVAMU came in the first game of a doubleheader by a score of 8-4 on Apr. 16, 1986.
