Bobcats Hit the Road to Take on I-35 Rival #25 UTSA

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Tuesday starts a stretch of playing seven of eight games on the road for Texas State (24-13) when it travels down I-35 to take on rival and 25th-ranked UTSA (28-8) at 6 p.m. from Roadrunner Field.
 
Fans can watch a video stream of the game through CUSA.tv while Brant Freeman and Clint Shields will be on the call on KTSW 89.9 FM.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats swept Marshall this past weekend to complete a 4-1 week that included a road win at then No. 19 Texas. Heading into the game, TXST is riding a four-game winning streak for the fourth times this season.
 
Davis Powell comes in on a nine-game hitting streak, the longest by a Texas State batter this year. He leads the team with a .380 batting average, 41 hits, 31 runs, and 13 doubles. Chase Mora enters hitting .305 with a team-high 12 home runs while driving in 33. The only other player with double-digit homers is Jose Gonzalez with 10. The senior paces the squad with 41 RBI and is 10-for-10 stealing bases.
 
Scheduled to get the ball to start on Tuesday is Peyton Zabel. It will be the right-hander's sixth midweek start of the season. So far, he has posted a 0-1 record with a 7.71 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 14.0 innings.
 
Triston Dixon (2-1, 3.86 ERA, 5 SV) has made a team-high 19 appearances in relief and worked a total of 37.1 innings. Jack Stroud paces all relievers with 42 strikeouts. The lefty is also 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA and two saves in 29.0 innings. Since moving to the bullpen, Nathan Medrano has posted a 1.35 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 12.1 innings spanning six games.
 
ABOUT UTSA
The Roadrunners are also on a four-game winning streak that saw them win at Texas A&M last Tuesday and then sweep Middle Tennessee at home over the weekend. UTSA is 21-3 at home with a 2-0 mark in midweek games with the last taking place against Incarnate Word on Mar. 1.
 
Antonio Valdez leads the team in batting average (.400), hits (56), triples (6), RBI (47) and stolen bases (13). His 39 runs and eight homers are the second most on the team. Shane Sirdashney has scored a team-high 40 runs while hitting .353 with 20 RBI. Taylor Smith (.317, 21 RBI) has a team leading nine round trippers. Also batting over .300 is Leyton Barry (11 2B, 34 RBI) and Caleb Hill (27 RBI, 7 SB) at .347 and .331, respectively.
 
Tuesday's starter has yet to be announced.
 
Out of the bullpen, Simon Miller has picked up seven of the team's 12 saves. The right-hander has a staff-low 1.30 ERA with a 7-0 record and 56 strikeouts in 41.2 innings over 17 appearances. Daniel Shafer has the other five saves while sporting a 0-1 record, 4.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 23.0 innings. Both Daniel Garza (4-1, 4.61 ERA, 24 K) and Ruger Riojas (3-0, 3.46 ERA, 27 K) have made 11 relief appearances.
 
SERIES VS. ROADRUNNERS
Texas State leas the all-time series 61-39. UTSA won the first meeting this season in San Marcos by a score of 11-2. The Bobcats are 26-20 when facing the Roadrunners in San Antonio. The last win on the road in the series for TXST was an 8-3 contest on Mar. 5, 2019.
