Texas State Hosts Marshall for Three-Game Series

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The last home weekend series in April will see Texas State (21-13, 6-6 Sun Belt) take on Marshall (14-16, 4-8 Sun Belt) for three games. Friday's game is set for a 6 p.m. start and Saturday's contest begins at 2:30 p.m. First pitch on Sunday for the series finale will be at 11 a.m. from Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Fans can catch the entire series on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call while Sunday's game will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM as well.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Friday: TXST RHP Levi Wells (5-1, 4.89 ERA) vs. MU RHP Patrick Copen (2-3, 4.43 ERA)
Saturday: TXST RHP Tony Robie (4-0, 3.90 ERA) vs. MU LHP Raymond Pacella (0-3, 6.53 ERA)
Sunday: TXST RHP Zeke Wood (1-2, 5.06 ERA) vs. MU RHP Zac Addkison (2-5, 4.82 ERA)
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Earlier this week, the Bobcats split back-to-back midweek games against 19th-ranked Texas with the road team winning each game. The win on Tuesday was TXST's second straight over the Longhorns in Austin, the fourth this season against a ranked team and the fifth victory against a Power 5 program on the year.
 
Davis Powell leads TXST with a .365 batting average and 13 doubles while his 28 runs scored are tied for the most on the team with Jose Gonzalez, who has a team-high 39 RBI and eight stolen bases along with nine home runs. Leading the way in long balls is Chase Mora with 12. The freshman also has 31 RBI, scored 22 times and is hitting .309. Only other Bobcat with at least a .300 average is Peyton Lewis (.300).
 
Starting on Friday will be Levi Wells, who is 5-1 with a 4.89 ERA and 45 strikeouts. Tony Robie comes in sporting a 4-0 record, 3.90 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 27.2 innings and will take the rubber on Saturday. Taking the hill in the series finale will be Zeke Wood. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 5.06 ERA and has struck out 34 in his six starts.
 
Triston Dixon (1-1, 4.32 ERA, 5 SV) has made a team-high 18 appearances in relief and worked a total of 33.1 innings. Jack Stroud paces all relievers and shares the staff lead of 45 strikeouts. The lefty is also 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA and two saves in 29.0 innings. Since moving to the bullpen, Nathan Medrano has posted a 1.46 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 12.1 innings panning five games.
 
ABOUT MARSHALL
The Thundering Herd come in having won 8-6 at Ohio on Tuesday. It was just their third win in the last 11 games with the other two victories come on the road against ULM. On the road, Marshall is 9-6 with a 6-6 mark in true road games. It was posted a 3-3 record in conference road games with the series win against the Warhawks and a series loss versus Old Dominion.
 
Pacing the Herd with a .337 average is Daniel Carinci. Luke Edwards enters hitting .307 with a team-high 39 hits, 28 runs and three triples while also recording three home runs and eight stolen bases. Gio Ferraro (.312) is one of three players to have hit a team leading four homers along with Owen Ayers and Kyle Schaefer.
 
Slated to get the ball on Friday is Patrick Copen. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 4.43 ERA and team-high 55 strikeouts in 42.2 innings over eight starts. Lefty Raymond Pacella starts on Saturday and enters with a 0-3 record, 6.53 ERA and 35 strikeouts spanning 40.0 frames. The finale will see right-hander Zac Addkison get the start. He sports a 2-5 mark, 4.82 ERA and has struck out 38.
 
Ryan Capuano leads the staff with five saves and 13 relief appearances. He has posted a 2.45 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. Drew Harlow comes in with a 5-2 record, 4.60 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 12 relief outing and 29.1 innings.
 
SERIES VS. THUNDERING HERD
This weekend will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Marshall is the fifth first-time opponent Texas State will play this season.
