SAN MARCOS, Texas – Grady Leonard set a school record in the men's hammer throw at the Texas Relays while
Simon Thor sits in second place of the men's decathlon at the Bobcat Invitational as Texas State's busy weekend competing at two meets started on Thursday.

Leonard, who already set the men's hammer throw school record earlier this month, established a new program best with a toss of 66.65 meters/218-8 at the Texas Relays in Austin. The graduate transfer recorded the mark in his third and final throw and finished 13th in the event.

Leonard was not the only hammer thrower competing in Austin on Thursday as freshman
Elisabet Runarsdottir – the only freshman in the event – registered a school freshman record and 10th-best overall women's hammer throw with a toss of 66.43 meters/211-4. She finished fifth in the event.

At the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Thor's performance in the decathlon highlighted the Bobcats' day one in the three-day meet. The junior from Sweden won the shot put and high jump while also finished second in the long jump to help him total 3,533 points through five of the 10 events. He trails UIW's Jeremiah Gilliam (3,647 points) going into Friday's finale.

In the women's heptathlon,
Luize Opola finished day one with 2,877 points and in sixth place. Her best finish in the first four events was in the shot put where she placed third with a throw of 12.04 meters/39-6 (664 points).

Freshman
Altwayne Bedward, in his third meet as a Bobcat, had a personal-best in the men's shot put with a throw 50.68 meters/166-3.

The Bobcats will continue to be split between their home meet and the Texas Relays on Friday. Friday's schedule in San Marcos gets started with the women's shot put and 110 meter hurdles in the decathlon at 10 am. The Bobcats in Austin, a mix of hurdles, sprints and relays, will compete in the morning.
