SAN MARCOS, Texas – Thanks to some of the best marks in the nation recorded this past weekend at the Charles Austin Classic in San Marcos, Texas State women's track and field team cracked the USTFCCCA's national top-25 for the first time as it was ranked No. 24 in the first NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field rankings of the season.

The men's team, meanwhile, was ranked No. 33 as both programs notched their highest rankings ever since the start of the USTFCCCA's archives that date back to 2008.

For the women's team, it is the first time it has cracked the national top-25 rankings since 1995 when it finished the season tied for 24th in the final rankings. The Bobcats concluded the season the 1994 season with their highest ranking ever of No. 16.

Last year, the Texas State women finished the season ranked No. 30 in the country.

The men's team's No. 33 ranking is its highest since 1995 when it finished the outdoor season No. 19.

The Texas State women's team currently features five athletes in the national top-15 in their respective events. Seniors
Anayah Washington and
Amaya Brown are No. 4 and 6, respectively, in the women's long jump while freshman
Melanie Duron is No. 6 in the women's shot put. Fellow freshman
Elisabet Runarsdottir is No. 11 in the women's hammer throw, and senior
Katherine Stuckly is No. 15 in the women's high jump.

The men's side is lifted by two athletes and the men's 4x100 relay team in the national top-10 of their events. Freshman
Chris Preddie is currently No. 3 in the country in the men's long jump, and the men's 4x1 is No. 8. Graduate student
Grady Leonard is No. 9 in the men's shot put.

Dominick Yancy and
Ashton Callahan represented Texas State at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene last season. This year, in their lone run so far, they ran the second-fastest time in school history (39.46).

In the South Central regional rankings from the USTFCCCA, the women's team is No. 4 while the men's team is No. 8.

The Bobcats will compete in the Texas Relays this weekend as well as host the Bobcat Invitational at the Texas State Track and Field Complex from Thursday-Saturday.
