Homestand Concludes Against Huskies and Islanders

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 10-game homestand for Texas State (13-6) concludes this week with two midweek games against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-10) and Houston Christian (2-17) on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Both games have first pitches at 6 p.m. from Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call.

Tuesday: TXST RHP Tony Robie (2-0, 5.11 ERA) vs. TAMUCC LHP Jamie Ramirez, Jr. (0-1, 3.52 ERA)

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats are coming off a series win over then 25th-ranked Southern Miss over the weekend. They won the last two games of the set and have been victorious in six of the last seven games. So far on the homestand, TXST has posted a 6-2 record.
 
Jose Gonzalez comes into the week leading the squad in batting average (.385), runs (20), hits (25), doubles (7), RBI (29) and on-base percentage (.512). He has also hit seven home runs and drawn 14 walks. Over 10 games, Davis Powell is hitting .378 with 14 runs scored. Chase Mora leads Texas State with eight home runs and has driven in 24 runs while batting .368.
 
Also batting at least .300 on the season is Peyton Lewis (.340) and August Ramirez (.300). Double-digit RBI have been recorded by Ryder Hernandez (10), Daylan Pena (20) and Ramirez (11).
 
Slated to start on Tuesday is Tony Robie. The right-hander will be making his second straight midweek start. His first saw him go four innings and allow two runs and strike out two in a win over 11th-ranked TCU. For the season, he is 2-0 with a 5.11 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 12.1 innings spanning nine games.
 
Triston Dixon (1-0, 4.58 ERA, 4 SV) has made a team-high 12 appearances out of the bullpen. Jack Stroud has struck out 21 over eight relief appearances and 16.1 innings while posting a 1.10 ERA. Carson Keithley has made seven relief appearances and both Reece Gould (1-0, 4.76 ERA), Rhett McCaffety (5.40 ERA, 1 SV) and Otto Wofford (1-0, 6 K) have come out of the bullpen six times.
 
ABOUT TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI
The Islanders are coming off a weekend in which they won three of four games over Harvard. They are 1-3 this season in midweek games with a win over UTRGV and losses to Texas, Texas Southern and Utah. TAMUCC is also 1-4 on the road with the lone win being over the Vaqueros.
 
Brendan Ryan enters leading the squad in batting average (.409), runs (24), hits (36), doubles (5), triples (7), RBI (22) and stolen bases (11). Also hitting over .400 is Chance Reisdorph at .404. Both Jose Israel Enriquez (11 RBI) and Christian Smith-Johnson (16 R, 5 SB) are batting .333.
 
Getting the ball first on Tuesday will be Jamie Ramirez, Jr. for his first start of the season. The lefty is 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA, one save and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings spanning four games.
 
Evans Hendricks has earned two of the team's four saves. He is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts in eight innings. Also earning a save has been Austin Dean (2-0, 1.50 ERA, 10 K).
 
SERIES VS. ISLANDERS
Texas State leads the all-time series 31-10. The last meeting came on Feb. 27, 2019 in San Marcos and saw TAMUCC win 12-5. Prior to that loss, the Bobcats had won five straight contests in the all-time series. Games in San Marcos has seen TXST hold a 17-5 advantage with the last win being a 4-1 contest on Apr. 6, 2016.
 
ABOUT HOUSTON CHRISTIAN
This past weekend saw the Huskies snap a six-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over North Dakota State in the series finale on Sunday. The only other win for HCU came at Abilene Christian by a score of 8-7 on Mar. 5. The Huskies are 0-3 in midweek contests and have been outscored in them 40-8.
 
Samuel Benjamin leads the team in hitting (.361), base knocks (22), home runs (5) and RBI (20). Both Reed Chumley (.315) and Diego Davila (.316) are hitting over .300 and have recorded two homers and eight RBI. The only other Husky with double-digit RBI is Damian Ruiz with 11.
 
Wednesday's starter is still to be announced.
 
Picking up the lone save on the year is Zach Ryan, who has an 0-1 record and 9.64 ERA. Chad Ricker has made a team-high nine relief appearances and has posted a 2-2 record, 6.00 ERA and nine strikeouts in 12.0 innings. Matthew Charles, who was a Bobcat in 2018 (redshirt) and 2019 (5 G), is 0-1 with an 8.16 ERA in 14.1 innings. He has struck out 10 over five games with three of them being starts.
 
SERIES VS. HUSKIES
Texas State holds a 16-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Bobcats won the first 16 meetings before HCU claimed a 7-5 win on Feb. 19, 2020 in Houston. That was also the last time that the teams have played on the diamond. Wednesday will be the 13 meeting between the squads in San Marcos with the last coming on Apr. 16, 2019. That night saw TXST claim a 17-8 victory.
