Wynn, Yancy Once Again Named Sun Belt Track Athletes of the Week

Yancy set the school record in the men's 400 while Wynn continued to dominate in 3 events

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the third time this season and second time in as many weeks, Texas State's Sedrickia Wynn and Dominick Yancy were named Sun Belt Conference Track Athletes of the Week for the period ending February 12, the conference office announced.

At the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. last weekend, Yancy broke the school record in the men's indoor 400 meter by running 46.41. He owned the previous record of 46.48, which he set on Jan. 20 earlier this season at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock.

The 400 meter record was not the only top mark in school history that Yancy was a part of as he and the men's 4x400 relay team ran a school-best 3:06.48 at the Tyson Invitational. The relay team, which featured Yancy alongside Taahir Kelly, Brian West and Bervensky Pierre, broke the previous school record by nearly two seconds.

Wynn, meanwhile, continued her dominance relative to Texas State standards in three different events to win the weekly award. She ran 7.34 in the women's 60 meter dash, which was second-fastest in school history and only .01 of a second off the top mark. She then ran 8.28 in the women's 60 meter hurdles, which was third-fastest in school history, as well as 23.52 in the women's 200 meter, which was second-fastest ever by a Bobcat.

This season, Wynn has run the five fastest times in program history in the women's 60 meter dash, six of the seven fastest in the women's 60 meter hurdles, and two of the three fastest in the women's 200 meter.

Wynn is 24th in the nation this year with her season-best time of 8.16 in the women's 60 meter hurdles.

Yancy has run two of the three fastest times in the men's indoor 200 and two fastest in the men's indoor 400.

Yancy is also 13th in the country in the men's 200 meter (20.65) and 28th in the men's 400 meter (46.41).

This is Wynn's third weekly honor of the season and her career. For Yancy, it is his third of the season and fifth of his career.

Texas State's indoor season comes to a close next week with the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet starts on Monday.
