SAN MARCOS, TX — For the 19th time during her career as a Texas State Bobcat,
Emily DeWalt has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Setter of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.
"It was nice seeing her back to her normal self over the weekend and not playing in pain, while doing what she does best in effectively directing our offense," said Texas State volleyball head coach
Sean Huiet. "But this honor is a testament, too, of her teammates and everyone working together, as a team, towards the same goal."
DeWalt's 19 career Sun Belt Setter of the Week honors are the most by any student-athlete in league history, four more than the next closest student-athlete, Arkansas State's Mallory Warrington. Last season, the Helotes native earned four weekly awards en route to picking up her fourth Sun Belt Setter of the Year award and being named the Sun Belt Player of the Year.
DeWalt, who was selected as the Sun Belt Preseason Setter of the Year earlier this month, totaled 100 assists in 10 sets played for a 10.00 assists per set mark throughout Texas State's three wins at the Cardinal Classic in San Antonio last weekend. She was also selected as Texas State's representative on the four-member Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team.
On the court, DeWalt directed a Texas State offense that finished opening weekend with a conference-leading 13.30 kills per set average and a conference-leading .329 hitting percentage. In the Bobcats' four-set season-opening win against Houston Baptist, she finished with her first double-double on the season with 43 assists and 14 digs.
DeWalt and the rest of the Texas State volleyball program will resume its regular-season action later this week, when the Bobcats participate in the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The team will open play against Hawaii at 12 a.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 2 / 7 p.m. HT on Thursday, Sept. 1.
