EUGENE, Ore. – Alyssa Wilson became an All-American for the 12th time in her collegiate career on Saturday as she threw 53.54 meters/175 feet-8 inches in the discus to finish 12th at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Wilson earned second team All-America honors with the top-12 finish, adding to her first team All-America accolade earlier this week in the hammer throw.
Wilson, who entered the national championships ranked 13th in the country in the discus, notched her best discus throw on Saturday in her first attempt. She fouled in her second attempt before registering a 51.08 meter/175-10 mark in her third and final throw.
With the help of Wilson's second-place finish in the hammer throw, Texas State women's track and field finished with eight points in the team standings and 30th overall. It was the team's first top-30 finish in the standings since 1995.
Wilson competed in three different events at the national championships: discus, hammer throw and shot put. She became the first athlete in school history to do that.
Wilson will next compete at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships back at Hayward Field from June 23-26. She has qualified for the hammer throw by surpassing the 67.00-meter standard, a distance she has cleared every time she has competed this outdoor season. She is currently ranked No. 3 among American hammer throwers this year and seventh in the world.
