FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –
Alyssa Wilson became the only athlete in the country to qualify for the women's discus, shot put and hammer at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships after the graduate student advanced out of the discus in the NCAA West Preliminaries at John McDonnell Stadium with the second-best throw in program history.
Wilson threw 57.37 meters/188 feet-2 inches in the discus to finish third in the field of 48 and be among the top-12 advancing to Eugene, Ore. The appearance in the discus will be Wilson's fourth of her career, and she will compete in three events for the third time.
The Toms River, N.J. product is the first Bobcat ever to make the NCAA Outdoor Championships in three events and only the third in program history to make it in more than one.
Wilson will be joined in Eugene by the men's 4x100 relay (
Bervensky Pierre,
Dominick Yancy,
Daniel Harrold,
Ashton Callahan), which punched its ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday with a school-record time. This is the first time since 1994 Texas State will have four entries in the NCAA championships.
In addition to Wilson competing on Saturday,
Sedrickia Wynn and
Katherine Stuckly were fighting for spots in Eugene. Wynn fell short despite running a wind-aided 13.19 in the 100-meter hurdles, which was the second-fastest time in school history, while Stuckly cleared 1.66 meters/5 feet-5.25 inches in the high jump but it was not enough for the top-12.
Wilson and the men's 4x100 will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 8-11 at Hayward Field.
