Pruitt returns to Lonestar State to join women’s basketball program

SAN MARCOS, TX — Texas State women's basketball head coach Zenarae Antoine announced Thursday afternoon the addition of student-athlete Taelour (Tay-lor) Pruitt to the Bobcats' program.

Pruitt, a 5-foot-6 guard out of Crowley, Texas by way of Crowley High School, comes to San Marcos following a four-year playing career in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO).

"Taelour Pruitt is a driven competitor, who has been battle tested and won both on the floor — winning an Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championship — and off the floor — receiving her bachelor's degree," said Antoine. "I am excited for Taelour, her family and our program, because she adds depth in areas that go beyond paper statistics."

During her time at SEMO, Pruitt appeared in 106 games, finding herself in the starting lineup on 75 occasions, help the Redhawks to the 2019-20 OVC Conference Championship after knocking off Tennessee Tech, Belmont and UT Martin in consecutive days. She made a buzzer-beating, game-winning three-point attempt against the Golden Eagles that proceeded a season-high 21-point performance against the Bruins the following day.

Pruitt, then a sophomore, was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team as a result of her performances.

As a senior during the 2021-22 season, Pruitt was one of three Redhawk women's basketball student-athletes to average double-figure points (10.3) on the season. Her 288 total points scored for the team were the second most, just 22 points shy of tying for the top spot. She shot 34.1 percent from the field and knocked down a team-high 42 shots from behind the 3-point arc.

Prior to her career at SEMO, Pruitt excelled on the basketball court at Crowley High, where she was a four-year starter. She averaged 21 points, six assists, three rebounds and three steals en route to being a four-time all-region first-team selection, three-time district most valuable player and two-time all-state first-team honoree. Pruitt finished her prep career with over 1,800 career points.

"Taelour Pruitt is a gamer. The bigger the game, the brighter the lights, the better she performs," said Crowley High School women's basketball head coach Ronnie Nichols. "She was the poster child of our program at Crowley and was the model of consistency. She is a champion, a natural born leader and a hard worker. Texas State got a good one in her."
