NEW ORLEANS — For the second consecutive week, Texas State sophomore right-handed pitcher
Jessica Mullins has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
"There is a reason this team is on a nine-game winning streak (right now), said Texas State softball head coach
Ricci Woodard. "Mullins always gives us a chance to win and, right now, her game is leading the way for us."
Mullins (20-11) tossed 18.2 innings of one-run softball and limited opponents to a .115 batting average en route to earning four wins in five Texas State (29-17, 13-8) games last week. She scattered seven hits — all singles — issued just one walk, struck out 17 and allowed just a single run in four appearances.
Mullins opened the week with a four-inning performance against UIW that saw her strikeout a week-high six batters, issue no walks and allow just two hits.
In Texas State's series-opening game at Georgia Southern on Friday, April 22, Mullins tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout, striking out four, not issuing a walk and allowing just two hits. She ended the game by retiring the last 14 consecutive Eagle batters. She returned to the circle the following afternoon and tossed 2.2 innings of perfect softball as the Bobcats rallied in the top of the sixth to win the series.
On Sunday, April 24, Mullins capped another complete game performance when the Bobcat offense exploded for 11 runs as Texas State knocked off Georgia Southern in five innings.
Mullins and the rest of the Texas State softball program will return to the diamond on Friday, April 29 when the Bobcats open up a three-game series against third-place Troy at 6 p.m. CT.
