Up to Waco for Michael Johnson Invitational

The Texas State women's team enters the meet with its highest national ranking in 15 years

SAN MARCOS, Texas – With the women's team earning its highest national ranking in 15 years, Texas State track and field will travel to Baylor for its next meet when it competes in the Michael Johnson Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium in Waco.

The Bobcats are coming off a weekend in which they set two school records, added five top-10 school marks, and achieved nine personal bests.

The women's team moved up eight spots in the latest USTFCCCA National Rating Index as they sit at No. 33 going into the weekend. It is the highest national ranking for the Bobcats ever since the USTFCCCA instituted the rating index in 2008. The previous best was No. 34 late in the 2015 season.

On the men's side, the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams put up stellar marks at the Charles Austin Classic to shoot up to the top amongst Sun Belt teams this year. The 4x100 ran 39.76 to match the Texas State record and slide two-tenths of a second faster than Little Rock for the best time in the conference so far. The 4x400 team, meanwhile, ran 3:08.77 to surpass Louisiana's 3:09.66 set at the Texas Relays in late March for the top spot in that event.

Texas State men's is currently among the Sun Belt's top three in nine different events with three weeks until the conference championships. Dominick Yancy (400) and Will Blaser (shot put) join the relay teams as Sun Belt leaders.

The women's team is also among the conference's top-three in nine events, with Alyssa Wilson leading the way in the shot put, discus and hammer.

This weekend's meet at Baylor is the Bobcats' penultimate meet of the regular season before the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships May 12-14.

Fans can stay updated this weekend with the live results.
