SAN MARCOS, TX — Following her work in the pitching circle throughout Texas State's three-game sweep of Georgia State over the weekend, Jessica Mullins was selected as the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.  

"(Jessica) Mullins gives us a chance to win every time she has the ball in the circle," said Texas State softball head coach Ricci Woodard. "But this weekend, she was even more amazing to watch dominate hitters. I'm glad she is getting recognized for her success." 

In two starts against Georgia State (16-23, 6-9) prior to the Easter holiday, Mullins (16-11) earned two seven-inning complete game victories, including a two-hit shutout to cap the series on Friday, April 16. She struck out 11 batters and issued only three walks, while holding opposing batters to a .174 batting average. All eight base hits she surrendered in 14.0 innings of work were singles. 

Mullins' complete game shutout against the Panthers on Friday, April 16 was the fourth such pitching performance for the sophomore right-hander this season and third against a conference foe. The last time she accomplished the feat was on Sunday, March 20, when she limited the South Alabama offense to just three hits — all singles — in seven innings. 

Tuesday morning's honor was the third career conference pitcher of the week status for Mullins, who was selected twice as a freshman throughout the 2021 season. She was last awarded the weekly honor on May 10, 2021 following a two-win, one-save series against UTA to close out last year's regular season. 

Mullins, who is tied for the Sun Belt lead with 16 pitching wins this season, will look to add to her pitching statistics on Tuesday, April 19, when the Bobcats return to the softball diamond inside Bobcat Stadium to play UTSA at 6 p.m. CT.
