SAN MARCOS, Texas – In front of 2,047 fans, No. 19 Texas State (25-9) defeated Baylor (16-16) 11-4 Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark. The victory was the seventh over a Power 5 conference team this season to set a new program record.

Otto Wofford (3-0) made his first career start and picked up the win in a bullpen day for both teams. Suffering the loss was Henry Cone (0-1).

Victor Loa and
Jonathan Martinez threw two scoreless innings with Martinez striking out two. Also holding the Bears scoreless for an inning of work was
McCray Gann,
Nick Moore and
Tony Robie.

Justin Thompson and
Cameron Gibbons had three hits apiece and drove in three and two runs, respectively. Also plating two runs was
Wesley Faison. Thompson also scored three times while
Jose Gonzalez and
Dalton Shuffield came around to score twice apiece.

The first three batters of the game reached base for the Bears to load the bases. Wofford was able to limit the damage to just two runs thanks to an inducing a double play.

Shuffield got the Bobcats going with a double down the third baseline. After advancing to third on a ground out, he scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2-1 after the first.

John Wuthrich drew a walk to start off the second. Two pitches later,
Wesley Faison homered to left center for his sixth homer of the season and put TXST ahead by a run.

The bottom of the third began with Gonzalez crushing a 2-2 offering over the right centerfield wall. Thompson made it back-to-back jacks with a round tripper that also was hit to right center to increase the advantage to 5-2.

After the Bears got a run back in the top of the fourth,
Ben McClain and Shuffield were walked and Gonzalez was plunked to lead the bases. Thompson hit a chopper to third that bounced over the leaping fielder's glove to plate two runs.
August Ramirez plated a run on a double and Gibbons drove in two more on a double of his own to put Texas State ahead by seven.

The final run of the game for the Bobcats came in the seventh when Wuthrich doubled to right field as the ball took a high hop over the outfielder.

Next up for TXST is the final series against UT Arlington as Sun Belt Conference foes. The first game is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
