#19 Bobcats Host Baylor Tuesday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 19 Texas State (24-9) hosts its second Big XII Conference member on Tuesday when Baylor comes to Bobcat Ballpark for a 6 p.m. first pitch. The contest is a Black Out game with fans encouraged to wear black.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call. Fans can also listen to the contest on KTSW 89.9 FM and live stats will also be available.

For the fifth consecutive week, Texas State is ranked in at least five of the major polls. The Bobcats are 18th in both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball, 19th in D1Baseball, 20th in USA Today and 24th in NCBWA polls.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats are led at the plate by Dalton Shuffield with a .375 average, 45 hits, 37 runs, 28 RBI and three triples. He shares the team lead of nine doubles with Jose Gonzalez and ranks second on the squad with seven home runs behind John Wuthrich's nine round trippers. Justin Thompson has reached safely in 23 straight games and is on a nine-game hitting streak. The senior third baseman has scored 28 runs, drive in 24 and hit seven doubles and five home runs. Also with over 20 RBI this season is Ben McClain (23), Daylan Pena (25), Gonzalez (21) and Wuthrich (27).
 
Making his first career start on Tuesday will be Otto Wofford. The Mason, Texas native is 2-0 and sports a 6.75 ERA in 5.1 innings spanning seven games.
 
Tristan Stivors shares the Sun Belt Conference lead with seven saves. He is also 4-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 29.2 innings over a team-high 16 appearances. Also with four victories out of the bullpen is Triston Dixon, who sports a 2.67 ERA and 37 strikeouts. leads the Sun Belt with seven saves while recording a 3-0 record, 0.72 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 25 innings spanning 14 appearances. Matthew Nicholas (1-0, 0.82 ERA) has made 13 relief appearances. Triston Dixon is 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 32 strikeouts over 29.1 innings while Carson Keithley is 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 16.2 frames in 12 games.
 
ABOUT BAYLOR
The Bears have lost four straight games after getting swept over the weekend at West Virginia and dropping a game at Dallas Baptist last Tuesday. Baylor is 5-8 when playing away from Waco with a 3-7 mark in true road games. Tuesday is the fifth consecutive road game for the Bears.
 
Jared McKenzie is the only regular batting over .300 with a .306 average. He shares the team lead of four home runs with Kyle Nevin, who has driven in 29 runs. Tre Richardson has scored a team-high 37 runs while Jack Pineda paces the squad with 39 hits, 33 runs scored and eight steals.
 
Slated to make his second start on the rubber is Henry Cone. The right-hander is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
 
Mason Marriott has earned five of the team's eight saves. He is also 2-1 with a 4.87 ERA while walking 24 and striking out 16. Also making double-digit relief appearances has been Cam Caley (1-0, 7.71 ERA), Chandler Freeman (5.54 ERA), Brett Garcia (1-0, 4.86 ERA), Oliver Hambleton (1-1, 7.84 ERA) and Matt Voelker (1-5, 4.58 ERA).
 
SERIES VS. BEARS
Baylor leads the all-time series 53-25 and have won five of the last seven games. Last season saw the Bears claim a 4-2 win in Waco. Texas State's last victory in the series was a 12-2 run-rule contest that ended after eight innings on Mar. 3, 2020 on the road.
 
The Bobcats are 7-15 when hosting Baylor. Last time TXST came out on the winning end at Bobcat Ballpark was on Apr. 2, 2015 with a 9-8 walk-off victory in the 10th inning.
