Tennis Set for Senior Day and Coach Plunkett’s Last Home Matches

SAN MARCOS, Texas- The Bobcats head into the weekend for the latter half of their four-match homestand against Georgia State and Georgia Southern on April 2 and 3 at 10 a.m. 
 
Sunday's match will have a special feel when Hana Kvapilova and Renata Gonzalez will be honored for senior day, and Tory Plunkett will have her last match as the head coach for the Bobcats.
 
Kvapilova and Gonzalez both got to Texas State in 2019 and began to make their impact on the court and in the classroom. 
 
Kvapilova made an immediate impact with a 14-7 overall singles record and was 6-3 in the spring season. In 2021 she was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team (Singles), All-Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year, and ITA All-Academic Team. Also, recently earning the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week award this season.  
 
Gonzalez posted a 9-10 overall record in singles, and 4-5 in the dual season. She earned a Texas State academic achievement award, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award and was a 2021 ITA All-Academic Team member. 
 
Texas State tennis head coach, Tory Plunkett, is in her 19th and final season. She will step off the Bobcat courts for the final time on Sunday with over 150 career wins. 
 
"It's my last home match, but it's also Hana and Renata's home match," said coach Plunkett. "It's their senior year and that's what my focus is on. That is what I have always tried to put my focus on, my kids."
 
"I don't think it's going to hit me until the very, very end because at that point Hana and Renata are done with their day, and I will realize that was mine too," said Plunkett.
 
The Bobcats
Texas State (4-12, 1-5) is coming off two losses from the previous weekend against Troy and South Alabama. 
 
Hana Kvapilova and Kate Malazonia have been a reliable duo on line one, clinching the doubles point three times this season. Kvapilova is 9-5 on court No. 1 in singles.
 
Seniors Kvapilova and Renata Gonzalez were the only ones to win their singles match against Troy.
 
The Panthers
Georgia State (12-5, 5-1) is currently third in the conference rankings, with a two-match win streak. Their recent wins being against Louisiana and ULM in Atlanta. 
 
The last matchup between the Bobcats and Panthers was in 2019, Georgia State won 5-2 at home.
 
Eva Chivu, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, is 8-3 in the No. 1 singles spot. Angel Carney and Sofya Golubovskaya are 7-3 in the top spot for doubles. 
 
Texas State hosts Georgia State Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
The Eagles
Georgia Southern (9-7, 2-3) will make their second stop of their Texas road trip in San Marcos, after taking on UTA Saturday. They are on a three-match win streak, with all of them being at home.
 
2019 was the last time the Eagles and Bobcats met, Georgia Southern took the home victory 4-1. 
 
Nadja Meier is their No. 1 singles player with a 4-4 record. Elizabeth Goines and Sonja Keranen have a 4-2 record in the No 1 doubles spot. 
 
Texas State hosts Georgia Southern for their last home match of the season Sunday, April 3 at 10 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
