Wilson Earns Second Sun Belt Weekly Honor in as Many Weeks

Grad transfer had four first-place finishes and set school records three times

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the second week in a row and coming off another weekend of record-setting performances, Texas State's Alyssa Wilson was named the Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 27, the conference office announced.

While Wilson picked up four different first place finishes at two different meets last week, her biggest performance came in the hammer throw. In the event, Wilson set the school record two different times and raised the standard in the nation for the event each occurrence.

At the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on March 24, Wilson threw 69.68m/228-7 to win the hammer throw and take the top spot in the school record books as well as the national bests. The next day at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, she proceeded to throw even further – 71.36m/234-1 – to once again set a new school record and the top mark in the country.

Wilson's hammer throw, meanwhile, is currently the eighth-best in the world this year.

Dating back to the UTSA Invitational in late March, Wilson has set the Texas State school record in the hammer each time in three different meets with distances all over 69 meters/226 feet. She is only one of two Bobcats ever to throw 60+ meters in the hammer.

Wilson also set the school mark in the discus throw, putting up a distance of 56.50m/185-4 at the Bobcat Invitational on Friday. The throw is also currently tied for seventh in Division I this year.

For her final first-place finish, Wilson captured the shot put at the home meet with a 16.17m/53-0.75. It was just short of her season-best of 16.18m/53-1.

In her first season with Texas State, Wilson has earned three Sun Belt athlete of the week honors: last week (period ending March 20) and in January during the indoor season.

Wilson and the Bobcats return to action this weekend with the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday. The one-day meet starts at 9:30 am.
