Nationally Ranked Bobcats Face Incarnate Word on the Road

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Nationally ranked Texas State (18-3) travels to take on Incarnate Word on Tuesday at Sullivan Field with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. Bobcats enter with the fifth longest active winning streak in the nation at eight games.
 
The game came be streamed through the Cardinals website and fan can listen on KTSW 89.9 FM with Brant Freeman on the call. Live stats will also be available.

After going 4-1 last week that included a win at #1 Texas on the road, Texas State entered all six major baseball polls. The Bobcats' highest rank is #15 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. Last week saw them enter the poll at #17, the team's previous best ranking ever, following a series victory at #11 Arizona. TXST also achieved its highest ranking in the Baseball America (#22), NCBWA (#26) and Perfect Game (#21) polls. It was also the first time ever the program has been ranked in the D1Baseball (#22) and USA Today Coaches (#23) polls.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the weekend on the fifth longest winning streak in program history and have won 11 of their last 12 games. Dalton Shuffield continues to lead the team at the plate with a .408 average, 31 hits, 26 runs, 22 RBI, nine stolen bases and seven doubles. His five home runs are tied for the most with John Wuthrich, who has scored 22 times and plated 17. Justin Thompson comes in batting .351 with six stolen bases.
 
Getting the start on the rubber will be Trevis Sundgren, who is coming off a dominate performance last Tuesday against Prairie View A&M. He struck out four and allowed just one run on three hits while going seven innings. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA and 12 strikeouts on the season.
 
Coming out of the bullpen, Tristan Stivors has recorded five saves and sports a 0.50 ERA along with 27 strikeouts in 18 innings. Matthew Nicholas is the only other Bobcat to make double-digit relief appearances (10) and has record a 1-0 mark with a 1.12 ERA spanning eight innings. Carson Keithley comes in sports a 2-0 record, 2.03 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 13.1 frames.
 
ABOUT INCARNATE WORD
The Cardinals are coming off being swept at Texas and being outscored 41-2. UIW had won five straight before facing the Longhorns with a series sweep over UT Arlington and midweek victories against Columbia and UTRGV. At home, the Cardinals are 8-1 with the lone loss coming in the first game of a doubleheader on Feb. 25 against South Dakota State by a 6-4 score.
 
Ridge Rogers leads the team with a .350 batting average and six stolen bases. He is tied for first on the team with 21 hits with Roberto Gonzalez and with five doubles with Alec Carr and Grant Smith. Gonzalez comes in with a team-high 13 RBI and is second with two home runs behind Reid Hensley's four.
 
Tuesday's starter will be Carson Rollins. The lefty has yet to receive a decision in five games including three starts. He sports a 6.57 ERA in 12.1 innings with 12 strikeouts.
 
Chandler Davis has recorded three saves and sports a 6.75 ERA and struck out 11 over 10.2 innings spanning eight games. Seth Higdon (1-0, 3.97 ERA) has made a team-high nine relief appearances.
 
SERIES VS. CARDINALS
Texas State leads the all-time series 25-10. The Cardinals won the last meeting 6-1 on Mar. 19, 2019, which was played in San Antonio. Prior to that setback, the Bobcats had won eight straight meetings. Last win for TXST was on Mar. 6, 2019 by a 7-4 score at Bobcat Ballpark. When playing UIW on the road, Texas State is 4-3 as the last victory was a doubleheader sweep on Feb. 20, 1991.
