#15 Bobcats Host Prairie View A&M Tuesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The 15th-ranked Texas State baseball team (14-3) returns to action on Tuesday at Bobcat Ballpark against Prairie View A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

After a 4-1 week that included a win at #1 Texas on the road, Texas State entered all six major baseball polls. The Bobcats' highest rank is #15 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. Last week saw them enter the poll at #17, the team's previous best ranking ever, following a series victory at #11 Arizona. TXST also achieved its highest ranking in the Baseball America (#22), NCBWA (#26) and Perfect Game (#21) polls. It was also the first time ever the program has been ranked in the D1Baseball (#22) and USA Today Coaches (#23) polls.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats completed a series sweep of Southern to enter Tuesday on a four-game winning streak. They are led at the plate by Dalton Shuffield with a .433 average, 26 hits, 21 runs, 18 RBI and nine steals. He has also hit four home runs, one shy of the team lead behind John Wuthrich's five round trippers. The senior outfielder has scored 20 runs, driven in 16 runs, hit six doubles and batting .357. Also batting over .300 is Justin Thompson at .345.
 
Slated to make his fourth midweek start on the rubber is Trevis Sundgren. He is 1-1 with a 6.92 ERA and eight strikeouts in 13 innings on the mound.
 
Coming out of the bullpen, Tristan Stivors has recorded four saves and has posted a 0.64 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 14 innings. Both Carson Keithley (2-0, 2.19 ERA) and Matthew Nicholas (1-0, 1.50 ERA) have made seven relief appearances.
 
ABOUT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
The Panthers dropped the series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend and have lost five of their last six games. Each weekend this season has seen PVAMU pick up one win.
 
Benjamin Ybarra leads the team with a .375 batting average, 18 hits and nine RBI. He has scored six times, hit two doubles and one triple. Also hitting .300 or higher is Paul Castro (.300) and Zachary Trevino (.351). Tre Turner has hit a team-high two home runs and Demarie' Smith comes in with four stolen bases.
 
Tuesday's starter is still to be announced.
 
Earning a save apiece has been Devin Aguado (2.70 ERA), Justin Maxcey (6.75 ERA) and Ty Tubbs (6.30 ERA).
 
SERIES VS. PANTHERS
Texas State leads the all-time series 40-1, have won the last 33 meetings. The lone loss came on Apr. 16, 1986 in San Marcos by an 8-4 score in the second game of a doubleheader.
 
The last meeting between the programs was on Mar. 11, 2020 at Bobcat Ballpark that TXST won 11-4. It was the final game that was played that season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All-time at home, TXST is 28-1 against PVAMU.
