#17 Bobcats Host Southern for Weekend Series

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final non-conference weekend series for the Texas State baseball team (11-3) takes place this weekend at Bobcat Ballpark when Southern University (3-10) comes to town. Friday's series opener got moved up to a 3 p.m. start time due to weather in the evening. Games on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 2:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
 
Fans can catch the game on KTSW 89.9 FM with no stream available for the series. Live stats will also be available.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats are coming off a historic victory Wednesday in Austin after defeating No. 1 Texas 6-4. Ranked 17 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, TXST is led at the plate by Dalton Shuffield. The senior shortstop is hitting a team-high .420 with 15 RBI. He shares the team lead of three home runs with John Wuthrich, who has a team-high 22 hits, 16 runs and six doubles. Hitting over .300 is Cameron Gibbons (.321), Isaiah Ortega-Jones (.310) and Wuthrich (.379).
 
The weekend rotation remains the same as it has been the previous two weekends beginning with Zeke Wood (3.71 ERA, 28 K) on Friday. Levi Wells (1.84 ERA, 21 K) gets the ball on Saturday and Tony Robie (5.27 ERA, 8 K) will take the rubber in the series finale.
 
Coming out of the bullpen, Tristan Stivors has recorded four saves and posts a 0.69 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 13 innings of work. Matthew Nicholas has made seven appearances and struck out six in six frames. Carson Keithley (1-0, 2.61 ERA) and Triston Dixon (1-0, 3.46 ERA) have come on in relief six and five times, respectively.
 
ABOUT SOUTHERN
The Jaguars are coming off a loss on Wednesday at Houston by a 7-4 score. It was their second straight loss and 10th in the last 11 games. SU won its first two games of the season at the Andre Dawson Classic in New Orleans over Alabama State and Jackson State while the third win came last Saturday at UTSA.
 
JJ Rollon leads the team in batting average (.395), hits (15), runs (8) stolen bases (3) and triples (2). Burgos O'Neill has driven in a team-high 11 runs. He also shares the team lead of two home runs with Zavier Moore and Tremaine Spears.
 
Friday's starting pitcher will be Joseph Battaglia, who sports a 9.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 18 innings. Left-hander hurler Christian Davis (3.38 ERA, 3 K) will start Saturday and Mykel Page (10.32 ERA, 9 K) gets the start Sunday's contest.
 
SERIES VS. JAGUARS
This weekend will be the first-ever meeting between Texas State and Southern. It is the fourth consecutive weekend series in which the Bobcats will play a first-time opponent. TXST is 81-7 all-time against SWAC opponents with a combined 75 wins coming against Prairie View A&M (40) and Texas Southern (35).
